NFL Picks

The NFL has 32 teams that all play every week outside of an occasional bye: It's hard for the casual or novice bettor to keep track of everything. One reason is because there are so many factors to track in even a single NFL game, including each team's recent play, injuries, news, how a team performs at home vs. on the road, whether the betting market is overrating a team, etc.

That's where our NFL experts come in: They spend every waking second diving into all of those key factors and more to provide analysis and picks on each NFL slate -- and these picks are all completely free on The Action Network's website and app.

NFL Picks and Bet Types

There's no shortage of ways to bet on the NFL, especially with legal online sports betting exploding in the United States. There are upwards of 20 sportsbooks offering betting across 10+ states, and all of these numbers will continue to grow in the coming years.

We provide picks and let you track bets on a ton of different types of wagers on our website and app. Here are a few categories:

And even within some of those categories -- player props, for example -- you'll find hundreds of different options to bet on at any given sportsbook. Bets will be available for passing yards over/unders for every quarterback, receiving yards for many wide receivers and tight ends, rushing yards for running backs, and the list goes on. Check out our best sportsbooks to find the perfect fit for the 2024 NFL season.

For additional information on bet types, please refer to our over/under, point spread, parlay, teaser, and moneyline resources.

NFL Spreads

The point spread is a simple way of betting on NFL games. It involves betting on whether a team will win by a particular amount of points or more, or lose by less than the spread.

For instance, if the spread is -9.5 for the Miami Dolphins, your bet is successful if they’re victorious by at least 10 points.

These bets are ideal for those who have a strong inclination for a favorite to win by a wide margin or an underdog to at least lose by a slim amount.

NFL Moneylines

The moneyline is an easy method of wagering on NFL games. All you have to do with a moneyline bet is accurately predict the winner of an NFL game. The payout depends on the odds and projected probability for the given game.

NFL Totals

Totals are also described as the over/under. These NFL bets are the prediction of the total amount of points scored between two teams in a game. Betting the total can be advantageous if you have a sense that the game will have a particular pace.

NFL Props

Props are wagers that are unrelated to the final score of a game. Some examples of NFL props include how many touchdown passes Patrick Mahomes throws (also known as touchdown props), the amount of rushing yards by Christian McCaffrey and receiving yards from Tyreek Hill. These wagers can add even more intrigue beyond the eventual outcome of a game.

Check out our NFL prop projections from Sean Koerner’s model. Overall, the model utilizes advanced stats while taking note of news and injuries. Factors within the model include player values, homefield advantage, recent play, and rest situations.

As part of our subscription-based PRO Report, we measure projections vs. lines for all U.S. sportsbooks so you’re fully informed on all potential advantages.

NFL Parlays

Parlays are wagers that require multiple layers to hit. However, that’s what makes them so potentially lucrative.

With NFL parlays, you have to add at least two games and all predictions have to go your way to win. A typical parlay with two wagers at -110 will distribute through +260 odds. So if you wager $100 on a two-game parlay and win in that scenario, your earnings would be $260.

There’s also same-game parlays where you can combine multiple bets involving one game. An example of a same-game parlay is merging the over/under with the winner of the game.

NFL Teasers

Essentially, a teaser is a parlay that has an alternative point spread or total that’s altered for your advantage.

The most typical NFL example involves a two-team, six-point teaser with the spread at -120. In this scenario, you gain six additional points to cover. However, both teams have to cover the adjusted spreads in the teaser for you to win.

Let’s say you take the Raiders  (+2.5) and Cowboys (-7) in their respective games with a six-point teaser. If the Raiders lose by less than nine, they cover that portion of the teaser. If the Cowboys win by at least a point, they cover that aspect of the teaser.

In general, your potential payout will go down depending on how many more points you’re gaining and the amount of games you select.
