The PGA TOUR's long, cold offseason is finally over.

The 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions will usher in a new year of golf tournaments, hopefully without any of the interruptions that we endured in 2020.

Normally, the TOC is the TOUR's winners-only event, where players qualify for the field through a victory during the previous calendar year. But because of the hiatus, the TOUR expanded the field to also include players inside the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings who advanced to the 2020 TOUR Championship.

That kind of criteria lends itself to a star-studded field, so let's take a look at the odds.

Dustin Johnson is the tournament favorite at +650 ($10 bet wins $65). At this time last year we were wondering if DJ would ever return to form after battling some injuries and inconsistent play for the previous two seasons. Well, not only is Johnson back, but he is better than ever.

The last time we saw Johnson, he was donning the Green Jacket after a dominant win at The 2020 Masters. That win was the climax of an all-time stretch that saw the 36-year-old rack up seven consecutive top-five finishes, including three victories.

Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are joint second-favorites at +800.

JT was in contention at Augusta before a sluggish Saturday saw him relegated to outsider status. Thomas would end up fourth at Augusta, one of three top-10 finishes in his last five tournaments. In fact, Thomas hasn't finished outside the top-12 since finishing 25th at the BMW Championship back in August.

Rahm, the World No. 2, ended 2020 with a runner-up at the Zozo, followed up by a seventh-place finish at Augusta.

One of the great things about the oddsboard it is immediately starts to answer questions. For example, I was pretty interested to see where bookmakers would open Bryson DeChambeau after his underwhelming performance at the 2020 Masters. DeChambeau was the favorite to win the Green Jacket, but the hype about whether or not he would "break Augusta" was put to bed pretty quickly.

DeChambeau is still one of the tournament favorites — he has the fifth-best odds at +1200 — but considering where his odds were at Augusta, it will be interesting to see if bettors (who are notoriously fickle) go back to Bryson in the early part of 2021.

As is usually the case in a limited field, the top of the board gets bunched up pretty quickly. There are seven players listed between +1800 and +2500:

  • Patrick Cantlay (+1800)
  • Patrick Reed (+1800)
  • Webb Simpson (+1800)
  • Viktor Hovland (+2000)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (+2200)
  • Tony Finau (+2200)
  • Collin Morikawa (+2500)

Three players that could be worth jotting down are Abraham Ancer (+5000), Cam Smith (+4500) and Sungaje Im (+4500). Ancer, Smith and Im were tied for second after 54 holes at Augusta and both Smith and Im had chances to at least put pressure on DJ on Sunday. The three up-and-comers all showed the ability to hang in a tough field recently, so these numbers could shorten pretty quickly.

It wasn't too long ago that Sebastian Munoz (+12500) was getting significant support from bettors. The 28-year-old was dynamite in the early part of the fall, finishing ninth at the CJ Cup, T14 at the Zozo and then T19 at Augusta. The Colombian's form dipped at the tail-end of the 2020 portion of the calendar, though, as Munoz MC'd at The RSM Classic and The Mayakoba.
