  • We're projecting college football bowl games after Week 2 using (mostly) preseason expectations as a baseline.
  • We also project the point spread for every potential bowl game using our Vegas-style betting power ratings.

There weren't any colossal upsets in college football on Saturday (just one on Sunday, when Cal capped off a win over Washington following a long delay).

But anyone creating bowl projections has the right to drop Michigan into a day-after-Christmas game in Detroit after it snuck by Army in overtime.

Right?

We've put together projections for every game, and estimated the point spread for each using our Vegas-style betting power ratings.

New Year's Six Bowl Projections

Right now, we've got a pretty familiar College Football Playoff. Alabama and Clemson would both be at least a touchdown favorite over anyone in the country, Georgia and Oklahoma included.

That's my four for now.

After that, I've got Ohio State winning the Big Ten over Wisconsin and both reaching New Year's Six games as a result, while LSU and Texas will be runners-up in their respective conferences.

The biggest question is which ACC teams gets the league's Orange Bowl bid assuming Clemson makes the College Football Playoff. A lot of people thought it might be Miami or Syracuse, but both got beat Saturday and don't look the part.

Again,  most of this is based on what we think these teams will end up being — based on the last two weeks, you could argue that Michigan doesn't belong anywhere near a marquee Big Ten bowl, but we'll give the Wolverines the benefit of the doubt for now.

Two teams that have worked their way into bowl projections with great starts? North Carolina, which has scored two upsets as a 5-point underdog or greater, and SMU.
