South Florida Win Total Under 8.5 -130

The graduation of former quarterback Quinton Flowers is a blow to the Bulls and a big reason for their ranking 125th overall in returning production. Head coach Charlie Strong and offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert ran a mediocre veer and shoot scheme in 2017 and that limited Flowers, since it didn't fit him.

The Bulls have an experienced wide receiver corps and that is their biggest strength, but they have yet to name a starting quarterback. It may take some time for South Florida to really get going with a new signal caller and semi-new offense.

We also should expect USF to be heavily penalized as Strong's teams are consistently among the country's most flagged teams.

The win total is juiced to the under, but you may get South Florida at plus-money in the season-ending game against Central Florida for a potential hedge. Games against Elon, East Carolina, UMass, UConn, Tulane and Cincinnati should produce wins, but the remaining six games are a mixture of road coin flips and Power 5 teams. Take Under 8.5, and look for a hedge spot against Central Florida if needed.

What else you need to know about South Florida

South Florida takes on Elon in Week 1 and that game should be on your radar. After going 2-9 in a rebuilding 2016, the Phoenix made the FCS Playoffs with an 8-4 record last season. Elon is expected to make the FCS playoffs once again this year coming out of the tough Colonial Athletic Association. Its head coach, Curt Cignetti, won the 2017 CAA coach of the year and looks to cause disruption for the Bulls.

Elon +23 is worth considering for Week 1, as it returns almost all its production players in the skill positions from 2017. South Florida will have multiple position challenges leading to this game on Sept. 1.
