The Hawaii Bowl will be played Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Middle Tennessee (7-5) won its final three games and four of its last five to earn its second consecutive bowl berth. It also is the Blue Raiders’ 10th bowl trip in head coach Rick Stockstill’s 17 seasons.
After a 2-3 start, San Diego State closed strong when senior Jalen Mayden took over as SDSU’s starting quarterback. The Aztecs won five of their last seven. Excluding the 2020 COVID-19 season, San Diego State (7-5) is playing in its 12th consecutive bowl and second under head coach Brady Hoke.
This will be the first meeting between the Blue Raiders and Aztecs.
Both Middle Tennessee and San Diego State are playing in the Hawaii Bowl for a second time. San Diego State played in the 2015 Hawaii Bowl a year before Middle Tennessee played in the 2016 Hawaii Bowl.
