Phillies-Astros: Game 2’s FanDuel Promo Code Nets $1,000 in Free Bets

Phillies-Astros: Game 2’s FanDuel Promo Code Nets $1,000 in Free Bets article feature image

The Philadelphia Phillies climbed back from a 5-0 deficit in the 5th inning to seize Game 1 from the Houston Astros 6-5 in extra innings.

As they lunge for the 2-0 lead to head back to Philadelphia on Saturday, FanDuel'spromo will secure $1,000 for new-users betting on the game.

If you're interested in learning more about how to use this offer, I'll break down Game 2 to exemplify below.

No-Sweat Betting Preview: Phillies-Astros

New-users can place any bet of $10 to $1,000. FanDuel will restore the amount you lost with free bets should they lose.

Houston Astros -142 with FanDuel Sportsbook

Houston will look to attack pitches early and often in Game 2 after surrendering a brutal first loss of the postseason. Framber Valdez will assume the hill at 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA. It will be Valdez's toughest test after cruising to victory in his last start against a struggling New York Yankees team. He'll look to his curveball to get ground-outs against the hot Phillies offense. If he struggles, Dusty Baker has most of his bullpen intact to offer support. The meat of the Astros production has been off of the backs of Jeremy Peña, Yuri Gurriel and Alex Bregman. The pressure falls on Jose Altuve, who's batting .108, to pick up some slack. The blue chip deadline acquisition, Trey Mancini, has also been a disappointment; he's hitless in the postseason.

Philadelphia Phillies +120 with FanDuel Sportsbook

Philly will deploy Zach Wheeler on Saturday, who starts this game with a 1-1 record and a 1.78 ERA. The Phils will also have most of their bullpen available, using four relievers that mostly threw 20+ pitches in Game 1. But Rob Thomson will look for Wheeler to pitch deep into this game. Most Houston hitters aren't too familiar with Wheeler, so it will be an interesting test to see how they handle his signature fastball and acumen for finding the strike zone. The Astros do hit well against fast balls, but Wheeler has been dominant against left-handed hitters. On the other side, Phillies left-handed hitters have found success against LHP, so it should be interesting to see how Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber approach Valdez. Harper has flames on his bat: he went 2-for-4 in Game 1 and is now batting .426 with five home runs this postseason. Sheesh.

For example, here's how I'm betting Game 2 (always take advantage of a promo and bet on plus-money. You also accrue more expected value the more you bet).:

BetLine
Zach Wheeler 5+ Strikeouts-166
Bryce Harper to Record 2 Hits+270
Phillies +1.5-176
Total+621

How The Promo Will Play Out

I deposit $250 and bet it on this parlay Saturday with the no-sweat first bet promo. Here's what can happen:

  • The parlay hits: I win $1,552.50. I also keep my $250 deposit and hold a total of $1,802.50.
  • The parlay misses: I get $250 in free bets. I'll explain that below.

Here's How Free Bets Work

Free bets are like credits. You can use them to place bets, but not withdraw. If the bet wins, you keep the profits, but the free bet money vanishes. Should it lose, you don't profit anything and lose the free bets you wagered.

So there is some risk involved in the long run, because your deposit isn't insured for when it becomes a free bet.

Pretend I lost my Saturday bet on Game 2.

I bet all $250 in free bets that I received and wager it on this Week 8 NFL Sunday parlay:

BetLine
Broncos ML+116
Bears +9.5-110
Jets +2.5-105
Total+705

These are the two things that could happen here:

  • The parlay hits: I've won $1,762.50 ($250 x 7.05). The $250 in free bets I placed the bet with goes away. But I've profited $1,512.50 since my deposit.
  • The parlay misses: I have nothing.
