MLB Weather Forecast: Storms Impacting Several Games in the Midwest

Tomorrow is May 1, but April weather will continue to haunt the majority of the country for the foreseeable future. Tonight, we have cold temperatures, gusty winds, mist, drizzle, rain, thunder, lightning … you name it.

We even have our first Weather Rating of 0 of the season! Sounds like a blast!

Highest Weather Ratings

• Pirates at Rangers: 76
• Yankees at Diamondbacks: 68
• Rays at Royals: 59

Weather Ratings are a proprietary number created by FantasyLabs, which are on a 0-100 scale, with 100 being the best hitting atmosphere and 0 being the best pitching atmosphere. Weather Rating takes into account temperature, wind speed, wind direction, stadium elevation, humidity and atmospheric pressure. 

Texas is sporting very Texas-like conditions and a Weather Rating that's right around where I would expect it to be for a night game. There's also a risk of some bad thunderstorms, which could make you think twice about rostering Jordan Lyles or Adrian Sampson in DFS.

You may want to think twice about a lot of things if that was something you were considering, though. The over/under has gone from 10 to 11 behind heaps of cash on the over.

We have ourselves an open roof in Arizona, where the Bronx Bombers are in town for some Interleague action. As you should know by now, open roofs in Arizona have led to overs hitting at a 56% rate. This total, which had fallen to 8, is back to its opener of 8.5.

Kansas City, like Texas, has a strong Weather Rating, but a risk of thunderstorms. And in Kansas City, it's more of a guarantee than a risk. More on that at the bottom.

Lowest Weather Ratings

• Athletics at Red Sox: 0
• Astros at Twins: 11
• Reds at Mets: 16

Nothing, nada, zip. That's the Weather Rating in Boston tonight, which would mark the ninth time there has been a rating of 0 at Fenway Park. No other ballpark has had this happen more than twice dating back to 2014.

However, despite the imperfect Weather Rating, Fenway has still played like the small ballpark that it is, as there's been an average of 9.25 runs scored in those eight games. The total tonight? 9.5.

The weather in Boston is worse in terms of a bunch of little metrics that are added into an equation, but the weather in Minnesota is no doubt worse in terms of normal weather stuff.

There will be rain, which I'll get to in more detail later, winds blowing straight in at 10 mph and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s. It's going to be a rough one for fans in attendance. The total dropped from 8.5 to 8 last night.

Inclement Weather

• Cardinals at Nationals: Chance of isolated showers/thunderstorms. Chance of precip looks slightly worse toward the start of the game compared to the latter stages.
• Astros atTwins: Going to be a wet one in Minnesota, though not a complete washout. If there are some gaps in the action and/or a lengthy period of drizzles, they could play, but that's not exactly something I expect.
• Pirates at Rangers: As is the case in Washington D.C., we're dealing with scattered storms in Texas as opposed to a blanket of rain. However, the risk of storms is greater and they could be severe if they do hit. Everything's bigger in Texas …
• Orioles at White Sox: Rain, rain and more rain, maybe some thunder, too! It's going to be tough to get this ballgame in, as there should be fairly steady rain falling all day and night in Chicago.
• Rays at Royals: More Midwest mayhem, as Kansas City is going to be sporting storms all day, too. This game carries the biggest thunderstorm risk of the bunch, and although it appears the worst will be over before the game starts, there might not be enough of a break to get the game in.
