Tiger Woods has been climbing leaderboards all season, and he'll have an excellent shot of taking down his first PGA tournament since 2013 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after an opening-round 5-under 65.
Woods is tied with Rickie Fowler for the lead, with Justin Rose and Gary Woodland right behind at 4-under. Oddsmakers have updated their to-win odds, and Woods currently leads the field of 30 at +400.
Current Odds to Win the 2018 Tour Championship
Tiger rebounded from a bogey on his first hole and looked excellent in all areas of the game, finishing third in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green behind Rose and Paul Casey, who finished 2-under on the day. Fowler had the tee-to-green game going as well but was especially excellent putting, gaining 2.16 strokes on the greens.
Tiger will look to carry an eagle on his final hole of Thursday's round into Day 2, and he's continuing to round into form at the perfect time for next week's Ryder Cup. Woods, who was one of Jim Furyk's captain's choices, will look to help the U.S. defend its 2016 title at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
