The Pacific Division boasts one of the most prestigious histories in the NBA. In addition to winning the second most championships of any division in the league, it has also seen some of the most dominant dynasties in the NBA. From the 'Showtime' Lakers to the Shaq and Kobe Era and the rise of Golden State's 'Dub Nation', there's been no shortage of excellence in the Pacific. The division also features the intercity rivalry between the Lakers and the Clippers. While it has historically been one-sided in favor of the Lakers, the Clippers have started to level the playing field in recent years. Today, though, the Phoenix Suns are on a mission to repeat as Pacific Division champions and supplant the Lakers and Warriors as best of the West.

Golden State Warriors

Perhaps surprising to some, the Golden State Warriors are among the NBA franchise leaders in championships won. The Warriors are tied for third with the Chicago Bulls with six NBA titles, trailing only the Celtics and Lakers. Three of those championships came from the electrifying dynasty built around Stephen Curry in the late 2010s. Curry-led teams hold NBA records for the most wins in a regular season and most total wins in a season (including the playoffs). The resurgence, success, and marketability of the Warriors over the past decade has made them one of the most lucrative franchises in sports history, currently valued at $4.7 billion. That makes them the sixth most valuable sports franchise in the entire world, just ahead of the Lakers. The Warriors are looking to get back on track in 2022 after two previously disappointing campaigns that saw them miss the playoffs. Healthy and motivated once again, the Warriors are ready to make their push for another championship.

Los Angeles Clippers

For most of the franchise's history, the Clippers have found themselves at the bottom of the standings and with little hope for improving. After moving to Los Angeles in 1984, the Clippers only made it to the postseason four times in their initial 27 seasons. The franchise began to turn a corner in the early to mid 2010s with the arrival of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan. Despite making the playoffs for six consecutive seasons, and winning two Pacific Division championships, the Clippers struggled in the postseason and were never able to make a deep run. To date, the Clippers have never won a conference championship or played in the NBA Finals. Clippers fans still have reason to be optimistic for the future, though, with perennial All-Stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on their roster.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are rightfully one of the most popular and storied franchises in the NBA. Their success is rivaled only by longtime Eastern Conference foe, the Boston Celtics. The Lakers are always a top destination for free agents, which helps them remain fairly competitive, even in rare down years. Today's generation of fans have had the privilege of watching some of the NBA's foremost legends wear the purple and gold like Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. The Lakers most recently found success in 2019-20 COVID season, where they won the NBA Bubble Finals. A series of injuries to key players like Anthony Davis has gotten their 2021-22 season off to a slow start, but they could still be a force to reckon with in the West come playoff time.

Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns franchise success can be bucketed into four distinct eras. The Suns reached the 1976 NBA Finals shortly after being brought into the league via expansion. It would take the team almost three decades to reach the Finals again led by Charles Barkley in 1993. The Suns squared off against, and eventually lost to, Michael Jordan's Bulls. The Phoenix faithful had a more prolonged period of hope for their franchise from 2004-12 with Steve Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion teaming up together in the desert. This trio pushed the Suns to the brink of another Finals appearance three times, but they were never able to get out of the West. Now, the Suns rest their hopes on young Devin Booker alongside one of the NBA's great point guards, Chris Paul. With a Finals run 2020-21, the expectations are sky high in the desert for this team to bring home its first ever championship.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings were a team without a longterm home for many seasons after its inception. From Rochester to Cincinnati to Kansas City and Omaha, the franchise couldn't find a suitable city until 1984 when they moved to Sacramento. Upon moving to Northern California, the Kings started to slowly build a team that would be competitive in the years to come. In the late 1990s through the early 2000s, the Kings found the right formula of players in Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Jason Williams, and others. Nicknamed the 'Greatest Show on Court', this Kings squad made the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons, but only ever made it to the Western Conference Finals once in 2002. Since then, the Kings have not had a postseason appearance since 2006, finishing near the bottom of the West each year. The Kings continue to struggle as they've had significant turnover at the coaching and general manager positions in the last few years. Draft picks and player development will be key in getting the Kings back to prominence in the Pacific.
