The Arizona Wildcats take on the BYU Cougars on Saturday night in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. Arizona and new head coach Jedd Fisch will be looking to hit the ground running — both figuratively and literally — with a squad that has truly struggled to acquire any modicum of success in recent years.

Arizona will be using a two-QB system, relying on both "starter" and former Washington State QB Gunner Cruz, and "backup" Will Plummer to power the Wildcats' offense against BYU.

Cruz doesn't have much experience and Plummer finished 2020 with 388 yards and three interceptions in limited playing time. Neither of the Wildcats' QBs inspire a ton of confidence and two-QB systems can oftentimes be underwhelming at worst and only a "slightly-worth-it" change of pace at best.

There have been reports that Fisch will stick with the hot hand if such a situation occurs, so there is a real opportunity for the Wildcats to get in a solid offensive rhythm.

BYU is a strong squad that has some serious skill on both sides of the ball. Dominant QB Zach Wilson is, of course, off to the NFL to try to revive the New York Jets franchise but BYU running back Tyler Allgeier—he of the 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2020—returns.

The Cougars also possessed a dominant defense in 2020, with BYU allowing only 15.3 points per game. They have a solid number of veteran defensive linemen and linebackers returning but could have a bit of a "musical chairs" situation with a less impressive secondary.
