The New York Islanders and Los Angeles Kings have both been playing some strong hockey of late, but they also both lost their most recent contests and are looking to get back in the win column.

The Islanders have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, and the Kings have had a very similar record of 6-2-2 in the same span.

This is going to be a very fun goaltending battle, but with that being said, we might not see so many goals.

New York Islanders Cruising Behind Sorokin

The New York Islanders have found ways to win without star forward Mat Barzal, but they are only three points ahead of the Florida Panthers for the second wild card position, and they need to continue to win hockey games.

Ilya Sorokin has been absolutely lights out in his recent stretch of games. In his last seven starts, he is boasting a 5-1-1 record with a 1.84 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. He has been one of the best goalies in the league this season, and he has been super reliable in the blue paint.

The Islanders have been a very strong team defensively for most of the season, currently with the sixth-best defensive proficiency, allowing only 2.68 goals against.

The Islanders also have the fourth-best penalty-killing unit, which is converting at 83.1%.

New York is coming off of a very poor defensive game after losing to the Washington Capitals, 5-1, so I expect them to tighten things up defensively as the Islanders try to get back in the win column.

Los Angeles Kings Dominant at Home

The Los Angeles Kings have been getting some excellent goaltending as of late, as well. Joonas Korpisalo is expected to get the start in this battle, and he has gone 2-0 in his first two starts with his new team.

In those two games, Korpisalo has a 2.00 goals against average along with a .929 save percentage.

The Kings have not only been strong on home ice as of late, but they have been excellent all season, skating to a 20-9-3 record at Crypto.com Arena. They are also 6-1 in their last seven home games.

Los Angeles has been incredibly sound defensively in its latest stretch of games, and the Kings are currently the second-best team in the league when it comes to allowing high-danger chances, surrendering only 9.46 chances against per game.

Islanders vs. Kings Pick

The Kings and Islanders are both very defensive-minded teams, especially in the opening 20 minutes.

The Islanders are allowing 0.71 goals against in the first period, and the Kings are allowing 0.85 goals against in the opening frame.

Sorokin vs. Korpisalo is an outstanding goalie matchup, and you can always count on the Islanders to keep games low-scoring. I like the under in the first period in this one.

Pick: Under 1.5 1P (-120)
