Since 2010, the AL West has been well represented in the World Series. The Texas Rangers had back to back appearance and losses in 2010 and 2011 and the Houston Astros won the AL pennant in 2017, 2019 and 2021. That 2017 season is, of course, the scandal-filled year that saw the Astros win the World Series before being caught in a sign-stealing cheating scheme. But still, they've won the AL West in four of the past five seasons and the pennant in two of the past three. The Oakland A's have represented the division as a Wild Card (and the division winner in 2020), but haven't gone any further recently. Could Texas' new stars -- Corey Seager and Marcus Semien -- catapult them to the top again?

AL West History

  • Astros logoHouston Astros

Since moving to the AL West in 2013, the Astros have seen great success. This includes five playoff appearances, three World Series appearances and one World Series Championship. Although riddled with the history of a cheating scandal, it is clear the Astros are a top-tier team in MLB. With stars like Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez, it is probable that the Astros' success is here to stay.

    • Division Titles: 11
    • League Pennants: 4
    • World Series Titles: 1

  • Angels logoLos Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have two of the biggest stars in baseball in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. However, it appears they need a few more pieces to truly become contenders.  After a 77-85 finish last season, the Angels entered 2022 looking to get back to the postseason for the first time since 2014. Unfortunately, after a disappointing first half it appears as it the Angels will once again miss the postseason.

    • Division Titles: 9
    • League Pennants: 1
    • World Series Titles: 1

  • Athletics logoOakland Athletics

Coming off of a surprising offseason, it is clear that the Oakland Athletics are in rebuilding mode. They are currently last in MLB in payroll and traded away several of their best players prior to the season. After trading away a wealth of talent, not much was expected of the A's in 2022 ... and they've played to expectations.

    • Division Titles: 17
    • League Pennants: 15
    • World Series Titles: 9

  • Mariners logoSeattle Mariners

After narrowly missing a Wild Card spot in 2021, the Seattle Mariners made some moves in the offseason, trading for outfielder Jessse Winker, infielder Eugenio Suarez and pitcher Robbie Ray. They finished 90-72 a year ago and entering 2022 hoping to build on that. After a slow start to the season, the Mariners caught fire late in the first half and put themselves in position to fight for a playoff berth.

    • Division Titles: 3
    • League Pennants: 0
    • World Series Titles: 0

  • Rangers logoTexas Rangers

Coming off of a last place finish in the AL West, the Rangers added some big names via free agency prior to the 2022 season. While Texas is still working its way toward truly being considered a contender, it's evident the club has made strides and is improving.

    • Division Titles: 7
    • League Pennants: 2
    • World Series Titles: 0
