Damian Lillard turned in one of the greatest NBA postseason performances of all-time in an absolutely heartbreaking loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Lillard’s 55 points and 10 assists were mesmerizing to watch, so much so that it actually overshadowed a one-of-a-kind performance from likely MVP Nikola Jokic in the Nuggets win.
Both teams were on fire in Game 5, shooting a combined 44.5% from the 3-point line. Lillard pulled out all the stops to make this a double-overtime game, but his heroics wouldn’t have been needed if Portland could’ve brought at least a bit of defensive intensity.
If the Trail Blazers continue to struggle to slow down the Jamal Murray-less Nuggets, it’s hard to imagine them winning this series.
Jokic is going to get his points no matter what, just like Lillard, but giving up a combined 46 points to Austin Rivers and Monte Morris is a surefire way to send the Denver Nuggets on to the Western Conference Semifinals.
