College Football National Title Odds: Ohio State, Georgia Most Popular Bets

Action Network contributor Matthew Perrault interviewed CG Technology's Vice President of Risk Jason Simbal on his SB Nation Radio show Monday afternoon and the two discussed some interesting nuggets regarding how both professional and public bettors are attacking college football futures and win totals heading into the 2018 season.

Gambling on Harbaugh

As a big name across the college football landscape, public bettors are much more bullish on the 2018 Michigan Wolverines than professionals are.

Simbal revealed, "The pros are actually fading Michigan. In fact, for the over/under for season wins, they bet Under 9.5 with Michigan. It opened Under 9.5 for Michigan at -125, and now it’s -150.”

Heavy on the Huskies

According to Simbal, both public and sharp bettors are all over Washington. In fact, when you consider the total amount of wagering action, the Huskies have received more attention than any other college football team.

“So Washington, the most interesting thing is that they are the most heavily backed team by both the sharps and the public. Washington season wins is at 10.5, which is the second-highest number behind Alabama and Clemson. Ohio State (and Georgia) is also at 10.5 and Boise State is at 10," Simbal said.

"The craziest thing for me is in the futures market where Washington was 40-1. They are down to 16-1 to win the National Championship. We’ve gotten the fourth-most bets on them and the fifth-most money.”

Popular National Championship Bets

In terms of number of tickets, Ohio State ranks as the most popular bet to win the 2018 National Championship at CG Technology's sportsbooks, followed by Georgia.

When considering money wagered, Clemson leads the way, with Alabama and Georgia next in line.
