The San Francisco Giants ended the Los Angeles Dodgers' eight year reign atop the division in 2021 with a stellar 107-win season. The division as a whole has been hot since 1998 -- when all five current teams were put together -- winning the NL pennant 10 times and the World Series five times. The San Diego Padres have put together an All-Star roster in the past couple of seasons and look ready to contend. The Arizona Diamondbacks have improved and are trending in the right direction, while the Colorado Rockies have some work to do.

NL West History

  • Diamondbacks logoArizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are coming off of a not-so-great 2021 season as they finished last in the NL West. To be fair, this division is one of the toughest in MLB, though a 52-110 record leaves a lot to be desired. Arizona is not a favorite to win the division in 2022, but finishing closer to .500 would be a successful campaign. Arizona certainly looked improved in the first half of the 2022 campaign, so now the club just needs to finish strong as it continues to build toward the future.

  • Rockies logoColorado Rockies

The Rockies added Kris Bryant over the offseason to compliment Charlie Blackmon and C.J Cron and strengthen the lineup. While this roster still isn't ready to compete for a spot in the playoffs, the Bryant signing was certainly a step in the right direction, though he missed a lot of time with injury early in 2022. The Rockies finished fourth in the NL West in 2021 and will be looking to improve upon that 74-87 record in 2022.

  • Dodgers logoLos Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are revered as a powerhouse because of their monster payroll, star-power and talent. Last year, the Dodgers finished second in the NL West with a 106-56 record. They managed to make the playoffs, but lost to the eventual World Series Champions -- the Atlanta Braves.

  • Padres logoSan Diego Padres

The Padres are another NL West powerhouse that boasts a roster full of talent. Fernando Tatis Jr. is loaded with potential, but began the 2022 season on the Injured List. Aside from Tatis, the Padres are led by Yu Darvish, Manny Machado and Joe Musgrove. This is another team poised to make a splash in the NL West, though the faltered toward the end of the first half.

  • Giants logoSan Francisco Giants

The reigning NL West champions look to defend their title, but their path won't be easy. After boasting a MLB best 107-55 record in 2021, the expectations are high in San Francisco. If they are able to win over 100 games again, it will likely mean Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt and Logan Webb had strong seasons. The acquisition of starting pitcher Carlos Rodon helps strengthen an already established rotation.
