  • There's plenty of MLB action on Saturday which means plenty of opportunity to play some props.
  • Mike Ianniello breaks down his favorite strikeout totals, with one over and two unders.
  • Continue reading for picks on JT Brubaker, Luis Castillo and Nathan Eovaldi.

I will be evaluating my favorite MLB player props based on what the Action Labs Player Prop tool likes. The tool grades each bet on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the best possible grade.

Below, I have laid out three prop bets that I am playing, the case for each bet and the best books to find odds on those player props.

MLB Player Props & Picks

JT Brubaker — Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+128)

Pirates vs. CardinalsCardinals -150

The St. Louis offense has struggled this season, ranking just 27th in wOBA and 25th in wRC+. Pirates pitcher JT Brubaker has been their best arm this season, and has a 3.77 ERA. He throws a great sinker and does a great job limiting walks.

In his most recent start, Brubaker racked up nine strikeouts and pitched into the seventh inning. He has topped 5.5 strikeouts in seven of his 13 starts this season and has been much better at PNC Park.

In his last start against the Cardinals at home he stuck out seven and I like him to go over this total again today. At plus money, it's a great value play to start off your afternoon.

Action Labs Grade: 7/10

Luis Castillo — Under 6.5 Strikeouts (+120)

Reds vs. BravesReds -120

Happy fade Luis Castillo Day! Once considered an ace, Luis Castillo has been one of the worst pitchers in the league this year. In 15 starts, he is 2-10 with a 5.61 ERA and opponents are batting .275 against him.

After posting an 11.44 K/9 rate last season, Castillo’s K/9 this year has dropped to 8.65 this year. He is averaging just 4.9 strikeouts per start this year and ranks in the bottom 30% of the league in strikeout percentage.

Atlanta ranks top 10 in the league in wOBA and wRC+ this season and has enough offensive firepower that they should get Castillo out of the game plenty early enough before he goes over this strikeout total.

Action Labs Grade: 10/10

Nathan Eovaldi — Under 5.5 Strikeouts (+110)

Red Sox vs. YankeesRed Sox -120

It is the best rivalry in baseball on a Saturday night so we might as well have a little action on it! In 15 starts for Boston this season, Nathan Eovaldi has been pretty solid, racking up a 7-4 record and 3.90 ERA. However, he has never exactly been a high strikeout guy.

Eovaldi has an 8.46 K/9 rate this season and is averaging 5.2 strikeouts per start this year. He has stayed under 5.5 strikeouts in each of his last three starts and in 10 of his 15 starts this season.

Against the Yankees on June 4, Eovaldi allowed just one run over six innings. But New York was able to hit him around a bit, totaling eight hits against him. They went 0-for-5 in scoring position and left six runners on base.

The Yankees have shown they can hit Eovaldi hard, and I think they will be able to do it again Saturday and he won’t reach this strikeout total.
