Two opponents who are starting to become familiar with each other look to reach the Wimbledon quarter finals.
Facing off for the fourth time since the start of 2021, Norrie has crept his way to a 2-1 head to head record, winning both of their most recent matches.
Who will move on at the Brits home slam?
Let’s dive in.
Tommy Paul finding a liking on Grass
Paul has produced an excellent grass season regardless of the result tomorrow. Extending his record to 7-3 with a win over a solid grass court player in Vesely, Paul’s game has suited the surface nicely.
Tommy Paul has yet to drop a set at Wimbledon. His wins over both Mannarino and Vesely in straight sets were exceptionally impressive. Two players who thrive on grass with their play style could not find a way to cause Paul any sort of trouble.
With his ability to create short sharp angles off both wings as well as taking a liking to approaching the net, the American seems to have cracked the grass court code.
Cameron Norrie thriving at Home
It often seems, outside of Andy Murray, that Brits face a lot of pressure playing at Wimbledon. Norrie seems to have shaken that off this year.
Before 2022, Norrie had a losing record at Wimbledon and this will be his first match in the fourth round.
Although he faced a scare against the on fire Munar, he weathered the storm he faced well and proceeded to provide Steve Johnson with an absolute thrashing in the succeeding round.
Despite his previous let downs at this tournament, Norrie has the game to thrive on grass. With his flat groundstrokes, he counterpunches extremely well and likewise to Paul, he can create remarkable angles sending opponents well off court.
After finding his way through Paul in their last two meetings. Can he do it again?
Betting Value:
With both players loving to counter punch and deflect incoming shots at steep angles, we should be in for a match consisting of tremendous rallies.
Both players have shown they are susceptible to cold streaks within matches, but when they are striking the ball well, they are very difficult to find a way to hit through.
Cameron Norrie has so often used his left handiness to his advantage, but against Paul that will be less so than others as the Americans backhand is something to marvel at.
As both players possess the game to trouble the other and definitely have the ability to run away with a set when the other leaks errors, I expect to see this match turn into an extended battle.
Splitting sets in 2 of their 3 tour level matches, they both love the battle.
Trust Paul and Norrie to give the fans a match full of highlight reel rallies and a great number of them.
4 sets should be almost a sure thing and I wouldn’t be surprised if fans got to witness a 5 setter.
