Hornets vs Nets NBA Preview
The Hornets have won two straight.
Nobody in our NBA vertical is more delusional about this team's talent than I am, while acknowledging they aren't actually that good, they're just better health luck away from contending for a Play-In spot.
That said, doesn't this feel like a time to be wary of backing them?
The Nets are worse. Easily worse. However, 8-10-1 against the spread isn't actually that awful.
Now, 3-6 at home ATS is the fifth-worst mark in the NBA, but I don't think this is an obvious Charlotte spot, even though I think the Hornets are good enough to replicate what they did on opening night, when they destroyed Brooklyn 136-117.
Brooklyn is 3-16 and banged up. The Hornets are 6-14 and getting healthier.
In this game, the Nets will remain without Cam Thomas (hamstring) and Haywood Highsmith (knee).
Michael Porter Jr. (back) and Noah Clowney (hip) are probable. Terence Mann (ribs) is questionable.
For Charlotte, Pat Connaughton (calf), Josh Green (shoulder) and Grant Williams (knee) are all out. Tre Mann (ankle) is questionable.
Hornets vs Nets Predictions, Betting Analysis
Moussa Diabate Over 13.5 Points + Rebounds
Two "back to the well" plays in this one for me.
Moussa Diabate over 13.5 points + rebounds is the first.
It's one of my more-played props this year, and he's in a nice buy-low spot.
Diabate is actually under this number in three of his last five, though he bounced back with 16 PR last game.
His prop is typically higher than this, and I do think he can clear it in a favorable matchup.
The Nets are top-seven in rebounds allowed per 100 possessions, and also allow the most points in the paint.
Diabate is easier to back than Ryan Kalkbrenner — who could also go over 14.5 PR — but Kalkbrenner shoots just nine times per 100 possessions, while Diabate is at 11 and starts out matched against second-unit bigs.
Brandon Miller Over 18.5 Points
I'm also tailing my guy Joe Dellera on Brandon Miller over 18.5 points.
It's a prop I've played a few times this season when Miller's been healthy, and this is a get-right spot after he shot 1-for-13 in the Hornets' win over Toronto on Saturday.
In six games this season, Miller has gone over (and scored at least 21) in three, including a 25-point outing against the Nets to open the season.
Of the three unders: he had 18 against the Knicks in a blowout loss, he left another game due to the shoulder injury that kept him out for nearly a month, and the last one was simply an outlier.
This line has moved to 19.5 at some books, which I'm also fine with.
