Pistons vs Heat NBA Preview
Two straight losses for the Pistons after winning 13 in a row. The second, in Orlando, was just last night, and knocked them out of the NBA Cup.
The Miami Heat, who just welcomed back Tyler Herro two games ago, are 13-6 with six consecutive wins. Herro's return brought Miami to full health for the first time all season — well, minus Terry Rozier's ongoing absence — though their high-powered, fun, seemingly revolutionary offense has taken a hit as they reintegrate the high-usage, ball-dominant scoring guard. The Heat hope a statement win is in order tonight as they seek to find their balance.
Injury-wise, as early Saturday morning, Jaime Jaquez (groin) is the only Heat player seemingly in doubt of appearance in this one. However, he hasn't missed a game yet this season despite multiple appearances on the injury report. Norman Powell (groin) and Andrew Wiggins (hip) are both probable.
For Detroit, no major injuries, though we'll see if anyone pops on the report with this being the second of a back-to-back, and a travel day following a close loss in their elimination from the NBA Cup.
Pistons vs Heat Prediction, Betting Analysis
I'm playing Davion Mitchell under 8.5 points. Mitchell, who has been one of my favorite role players this season — and really since landing with the Heat — has seen his offensive opportunities dwindle recently, amplified by the return of Herro.
Mitchell has gone under 8.5 points in three straight games and in four of his past five. He only took two shots in 29 minutes last game, and eight in 32 minutes before that, both with Herro back. Even in the final game before Herro's return, Mitchell shot just six times in 31 minutes.
Mitchell has 10 or more attempts in just five of 19 games this year, and he has only attempted eight free throws and seven threes across his past five outings. It's not really his fault; he's been a legit set-the-table point guard with pitbull perimeter defense, but there are a lot of shots to go around, and he isn't a primary shooting option.
Pick: Davion Mitchell Under 8.5 Points (-110, DraftKings)
