Knicks vs Nets NBA Preview
I want to say this game used to mean something, especially as a lifelong, born-and-raised New Yorker.
But we don't care…
As someone who covered the Nets earlier in his career — the Kenny Atkinson era — I can tell you that what Zach Lowe told Bill Simmons is basically true.
Knicks fans, especially at this moment, are 50-to-1 in this city.
You can credibly argue that we have the most and least engaged fanbases in the NBA.
The Knicks' fans will take over the Barclays Center, which shouldn't surprise you, you'll hear Knick fans everywhere.
Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, Philly, you name it.
Brooklyn with this era of Nets hoops won't be an exception, even if the Knicks look fairly uneasy and the Nets are perhaps the least inspiring group in the league.
The Knicks, away from Madison Square Garden, are just 1-5 this season — 0-5 against Eastern Conference teams, with losses to Miami (twice), Milwaukee, Orlando and Chicago.
Landry Shamet injured his shoulder on Saturday during yet another worrisome loss on the road, this time to the Magic.
The Knicks will be without him in this game, and likely much longer, perhaps even season-ending.
OG Anunoby, still nursing his hamstring, isn't expected back for weeks.
Ben Saraf, Cam Thomas, and Haywood Highsmith remain out for Brooklyn.
Knicks vs Nets Prediction, Betting Analysis
Unbelievably, I'm playing Drake Powell to make one three. Just one.
This isn't as much of a given as it should be since Powell can go games without making or attempting any.
But Powell is one of the only Net rookies who can play, at least a little bit, and I think projects as a future three-and-d guy (I said this pre-draft and understand the term is overused, but it applies here) when he develops.
Powell is just 6-for-15 on threes this year in 10 appearances.
In his last eight games, he's been a rotation player, and in those games, he sprinkled in a 3-for-3 display from deep against none other than the Knicks.
He's gone over this line in just three of seven, and didn't attempt one in his 14-minute stint last night in Toronto, but the Knicks allow the fourth-most threes per 100 possessions, and Powell's only double-digit scoring game came against this defense.
Pick: Drake Powell Over 0.5 Three-Pointers Made (-115)
Spread
I'm not betting either side of the spread in this game.
Moneyline
No play on the moneyline, either.
Over/Under
My Nets vs Knicks betting prediction is on Drake Powell Over 0.5 Three-Pointers Made.
