Spurs vs Timberwolves NBA Preview

The Spurs are a franchise that is used to playing important games in May and June. However, on Friday night, they picked up one of their most important regular-season wins in recent memory, going into Denver and pulling out a 139-136 victory. In the process, they clinched Western Conference Group C and will take on the Lakers in the quarterfinals.

De'Aaron Fox did not shoot well from the field (6-for-19) but had a double-double with 15 points and 12 assists. However, it was the hot shooting of Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie that led the way, combining for 60 points and 10 of the team's 17 3-pointers. Dylan Harper added 11 points and three assists in 15 minutes in his second game since returning from injury.

The Spurs will still be without Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle tonight. However, they will enter tonight's game having won five of their last six games. They will look to snap a three-game losing streak to the Timberwolves.

Meanwhile, Minnesota had won five out of six as well, but it was followed by a three-game losing skid. It snapped that streak yesterday with a 119-115 victory over the Celtics. Anthony Edwards led the way with 39 points and five assists while draining five 3-pointers. He is averaging 28 points per game this season, which is 12th in the league.

This season, Julius Randle has built on a strong postseason run and is averaging 23.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. Randle leads the team in assists, but the team does have a clear need for another playmaker. The team ranks 20th in both turnovers per game and assists-to-turnovers ratio. The lack of a true point guard has shown at times, as the team has stagnated offensively, including letting fourth-quarter leads against the Suns and Kings slip away this week.

Spurs vs Timberwolves Prediction, Betting Analysis

Minnesota has won seven of the last 10 meetings in this series, but San Antonio has covered seven of them. The trends for tonight do not favor Minnesota as well. They are 3-6 against the spread at home, 0-3 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back – although this one will not require travel.

Additionally, San Antonio has the better offense of late despite their injuries, as it ranks eighth in offensive rating over the last 10 games while Minnesota is 14th. That should help the Spurs stay within one possession tonight.

Prior to Friday's game, Fox had scored 24 points in six straight games. He is averaging 24 per game this season, and I like him to bounce back tonight, as he is averaging 31 points in his last six games against Minnesota, scoring at least 20 in five of those. Meanwhile, Vassell has made three 3-pointers or more in four straight games and five of his last seven against Minnesota, who allow 3.6 3-pointers per game to shooting guards.

For Minnesota, Randle and Jaden McDaniels have filled up the stat sheet of late. Randle has had 10+ rebounds and assists combined in nine of his last 10 games and had 17 in his last game against the Spurs. McDaniels

I expect Edwards to remain aggressive from deep, as he has made five threes in each of his last four games. He has attempted 10 or more in each of those games while averaging 9.3 over his last 10 games. That should give him ample opportunity to make at least four tonight.

Pick: Spurs +3.5 (-110, bet365)
