Pistons vs Celtics NBA Preview

This is an NBA Cup game.

The Pistons are 2-0 with a +27 point differential heading into this oddball 5 p.m. ET weekday tip-off against the Celtics, who are 1-2 and -20 in the group.

A win for Detroit would put them at 3-0, but the Orlando Magic are +61 following their 41-point win over the 76ers last night.

The Pistons and Magic would then square off for group supremacy on Friday.

The Celtics can spoil the fun and improve to 2-2 with an upset victory, which would be relevant if Orlando went and beat Detroit on Friday afterward.

But Detroit could lose tonight and win the group with a win over Orlando on Friday anyway due to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Still, a team on a 13-game winning streak isn't going to just fold one here.

The big injury here is Neemias Queta (ankle), who is out.

Pistons vs Celtics Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Celtics are third in fewest points allowed, but Queta is the primary reason for that, and he is out.

This is a Jalen Duren spot, to me, especially for someone who went for 24 and 18 last time he played Boston (with Queta) a month ago.

The C's allow 46.1 rebounds per 100 possessions (fifth most) and the second most free throw attempts per 100 (28.8).

Duren is averaging 7.4 free throw attempts and hitting on 75.7 percent this season.

Though he has dropped off to 66 percent over his last six, he's at nine attempts per game — and not having Queta is sneakily important.

Pick:Jalen Duren Over 30.5 Points + Rebounds (-120)
