Boston Celtics Player Stats
Uncertainty swirls around the Celtics as Boston enters the offseason in search of a new head coach and long-term answers to a roster that was hampered by injuries in the 2020-21 season.
Despite opening the season with a win total of 45.5 at DraftKings, the Celtics managed to go only 36-36 straight-up last season, losing bettors a whopping 22.2 units in the process. Keep reading for all the odds on moneylines, spreads, and totals, as well as for prop bets and futures for the upcoming season.
Boston Celtics Point Spreads
One of the most frequent bets that sportsbooks will offer on NBA games is the point spread bet. The point spread is simply a wager on the margin of victory in an individual game.
Here’s an example for a potential Celtics game held at TD Garden:
- New York Knicks (+7.5)
- Boston Celtics (-7.5)
In the above example, the Celtics are the favorite, as noted by the minus sign (-), while the visiting Knicks are the underdog, indicated by the plus sign (+). For a bet on the Celtics to win against the spread, they would need to win by eight or more points against the Knicks. A Celtics win by seven points or fewer, or an outright Knicks victory, would see Knicks bettors cash their tickets.
Boston Celtics Moneylines
If bets on the spread aren’t your type of wager, betting on the moneyline is an up -or-down “who will win?” type of bet. Much like a spread bet, the favorite is denoted with a minus sign (-) and the underdog a plus sign (+). Let’s keep with that example above, where the Celtics are favored by -7.5 home against the Knicks.
In this example, we would expect the moneylines to be:
- New York Knicks +265
- Boston Celtics -350
The numbers after the +/- sign are the odds. When expressed in American format, the odds for the favorite are written as the number of dollars you would have to wager to win $100 -- a $350 bet on the Celtics in this case. For the underdog, the odds are the number of dollars you would win off a $100 bet -- $265 in the case of an outright Knicks win.
Boston Celtics Over/Unders
Point spreads and moneylines bets are wagers on the outcome of the game; over/unders, or total bets, are simply bets on the amount of points that will be scored between the two teams combined, regardless of who wins or loses.
Let’s set the total of our example Knicks-Celtics game to 220. In that case, an over bet would win if the two teams combined for 221 points or more, and a bet on the under would win only if the two teams combined for 219 or fewer points. In the case that the score added up to exactly 220 points, the bet would be declared a “push,” and your initial wager would be refunded.
Boston Celtics Props
If you’re not interested in wagering on the precise outcome of the game, prop bets are a great way to ease yourself into betting. Prop bets can be as varied as over/unders for individual player performances -- for example, Jayson Tatum over/under 33.5 points -- or as niche as “who will score the first bucket?”
NBA futures bets are self-explanatory: They are wagers on events that go beyond the next game. Celtics futures in 2021-22 include whether they’ll make the playoffs, whether they’ll win the Atlantic Division, whether they’ll win the NBA Championship, and more.
