Heat vs Hornets NBA Friday Preview

The Miami Heat were in a legit battle with the Nets last night, but the Heat pulled it together for a win and a cover.

I talk a lot about the Hornets' excellence in these short-rest spots, but Miami isn't far behind them in that department, which isn't surprising, considering the Heat culture (sorry) led by Erik Spolestra and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat are 10-4 straight up and against the spread while on the second of a back-to-back this season — both top-five in the NBA.

The Hornets are 5-8 against the spread with a rest advantage. Evidently, they are a "give me tougher battles" team.

Injury-wise, we'll wait on Miami, given the Heat just played a game last night. However, do not expect to see Norman Powell (groin) or Terry Rozier (feds).

Nikola Jovic (back) and Simone Fontecchio (groin) were also out last night for Miami, and could miss again tonight.

Also, keep an eye on Davion Mitchell's status, who has popped up on the injury report ahead of several games lately, though he did play last night for a fifth appearance in a row.

For Charlotte, Tidjane Salaun (calf) is out.

Heat vs Hornets Picks, Betting Predictions

LaMelo Ball has gone over 6.5 assists in six of his last seven games overall, and in five straight matchups against Miami.

This is a better, healthier Hornets team than the squad Miami saw back in October, where Ball had 20-9-8, but Brandon Miller had already been injured, it was only the fourth game of the year, and Moussa Diabate was coming off the bench for rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner.

Hardly anyone knows who they are more than Charlotte, of all the teams in the Eastern Conference, and while people try to sidestep Ball in favor of praising the shiny new toy in Kon Knueppel or the emerging young star in Miller, Ball still makes this thing go because of his playmaking.

Even now, he has a 44 assist percentage, which is the highest of his career and ranks second in the NBA.

Averaging 12.0 potential assists makes for a decent floor for a point guard engineering the NBA's best offense of 2026.

Heat vs Hornets Best Bet

  • LaMelo Ball Over 6.5 Assists (-135)
