The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement shared some promising news about Atlantic City's casinos.

Last month, the city's nine casinos made a total of $311.9 million, which is 6.1% more than they made in the same month the previous year. This summer was especially good for them, marking their best performance in over ten years.

Between June and August 2025, the casinos brought in $855.1 million, almost 6% more than they did during the same months in 2024, when they made $810.5 million. August was particularly successful, with the highest earnings for that month since 2012, and it was the first time that the monthly total went over $300 million since then.

The news comes on the heels of a star-studded event at Ocean Casino.

Which Atlantic City Casinos Fared The Best?

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported that Borgata made the most money, followed by Hard Rock and Ocean Casino, with Ocean Casino earning over $50 million for the first time.

The totals include both slot machine and table game revenue for each of the nine properties:

Five casinos saw increases in both slot and table game earnings, while only Bally's and Golden Nugget made less money compared to last August.

These numbers only include money made from in-person slot and table games—not online gaming or sports betting. Each of the nine casinos did better in either slots or table games, and throughout the summer, Borgata, Hard Rock, and Ocean Casino Resort were particularly successful.

Tropicana Casino recently started offering live slots, while Harrah's welcomed back the World Series of Poker circuit.

Fending Off Competition from Online Casinos

Even though online gaming is becoming more popular, Atlantic City's physical casinos are still coming out on top.

For the fourth consecutive month, these casinos made more money than online gaming by over $125 million during the busy summer months of June to August. Earlier in 2025, online gaming often made more money than physical casinos, so this is a big change.

Borgata led all casinos, followed by Hard Rock and Ocean Casino, with Ocean crossing the $50 million mark for the first time ever.
Borgata topped the list of casino earnings, followed by Hard Rock, while Ocean Casino broke new ground by surpassing the $50 million mark for the first time.

The total money made from casinos, racetracks, and their partners last month was $642.2 million, which is a 15.7% increase compared to $555.1 million in August 2024. 2024 was a rough year, overall, for Atlantic City.

From the beginning of the year through August 2025, the total gaming revenue was $4.57 billion, showing a 9.7% growth compared to $4.16 billion for the same time last year. Additionally, the taxes collected from all this revenue were $86.1 million for August 2025, adding up to $532.2 million for the year through August.

Atlantic City Casinos Have Best Month in Years

James Plousis, Chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, highlighted that August 2025 was the most lucrative since 2012.

He attributed this to appealing gaming options and top-tier in-person experiences offered by Atlantic City's casinos. Jane Bokunewicz, from Stockton University's gaming institute, noted that the robust summer performance realigned year-to-date revenues, providing operators with a 2.8% year-over-year revenue cushion as they head into the fall.

The vibrant casino earnings contributed significantly to New Jersey's total gaming revenue for August 2025, which surpassed $640 million. This figure encompassed both land-based casino profits and a record-setting $248.4 million from the online gaming sector. Year-to-date casino wins hit $1.98 billion through August, reflecting a 2.8% increase compared to the previous year.
