A routine morning on a carpentry job turned into a life‑changing moment for Josh Anglin, a Berea, Kentucky resident who struck a $413,300.95 jackpot while playing the Kentucky Lottery’s online game Money Strike Jackpots. Anglin said he was simply passing the time while waiting for his father and son to arrive for work when the unexpected win appeared on his phone.
According to Anglin, the moment hardly felt real. “I screamed and just stared at my phone. Like, this can’t be real,” he said.
This win is almost as astonishing as the man who won two Kentucky Lottery jackpots in the same month. It also reminds us of the Lexington woman who used a fortune cookie to hit a massive online jackpot, and the person who hit back-to-back slot machine jackpots last spring in "The Bluegrass State."
Needed the Kentucky Lottery to Confirm
His son, who arrived shortly after, was just as doubtful. He worried it might be a scam until he saw the official Kentucky Lottery confirmation. That’s when Anglin decided to call his father, who was already on the road for another carpentry job in Louisville.
“We were just in Louisville doing work at the VA,” his father said with a laugh. “Josh called and asked if I was ready to ride to Louisville, so my first thought was, ‘What did we do wrong?’”
Instead, the three generations soon found themselves driving together to the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters to claim the prize. After taxes, Anglin received $290,201.18.

What Will Anglin Do With the Money?
When asked what he planned to do with the winnings, Anglin didn’t hesitate. “I’m gonna build a house,” he said. “I’ve been building houses for everyone else; it’s time to build my own.”
The win marks the second major jackpot on Money Strike Jackpots in less than a month. An Ohio woman, who chose to remain anonymous, won $572,217.52 on March 24. The game is a progressive jackpot, meaning the top prize grows as more people play.
Kentucky Lottery Expands Its Offerings
The Kentucky Lottery continues to expand its digital offerings, including Connected Play, a feature that lets players use the mobile app to purchase games at retail locations using funds from their Fun Club wallet. The lottery operates both online and through more than 3,500 retailers statewide.
In 2025, the Kentucky Lottery paid out more than $1.6 billion in prizes. Proceeds helped fund scholarships and grants for over 1 million Kentucky students, continuing the organization’s long‑standing role in supporting education across the state.
