Park MGM Has a Storied History
Park MGM in Las Vegas has a rich history, starting as the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, which opened on June 21, 1996. The Monte Carlo was designed to evoke the look and feel of the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. The resort featured 32 stories and was developed by Mirage Resorts and Circus Circus Enterprises, later acquired by MGM Resorts International.
In January 2008, a fire caused by welding on the rooftop forced the closure and evacuation of the Monte Carlo, resulting in around $100 million in damages and lost revenue. The hotel reopened three weeks later after repairs, and the top floor was renovated into a boutique hotel-within-a-hotel called Hotel32.
MGM announced a major renovation and rebranding of the Monte Carlo in June 2016, renaming it Park MGM to reflect the nearby outdoor entertainment district, The Park, and creating a fresh Las Vegas identity free of international themes. This renovation, costing over $550 million, lasted about two years and concluded in December 2018. The rebranding removed Hotel32 and introduced the NoMad Las Vegas hotel within the top floors of the tower.

Park MGM now features nearly 3,000 rooms, including NoMad, an expansive casino of about 77,000 square feet, and new venues such as the Park Theater (renamed Dolby Live) with 5,200 seats.
In 2020, Park MGM became the only smoke-free casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip, targeting non-smoking clientele and adapting to changing preferences and pandemic-related considerations.
Park MGM has evolved from a Monaco-themed resort into a modern and stylish place for entertainment and staying on the Las Vegas Strip, highlighting the latest in Las Vegas style and facilities.
