Suns vs Timberwolves NBA Preview
Both of these Western Conference teams are looking to avoid the 2026 NBA Play-In Tournament. While the Suns are only one spot behind the Timberwolves in the standings, they have done more with less so far this season.
Phoenix is seventh in the Western Conference standings after trading Kevin Durant to the Rockets in a deal that brought in Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks over the offseason.
Brooks posted a career-high 20.9 points before fracturing his hand in his 50th game with the Suns, but Green's scoring average (17.6 points per game) is the lowest it's been since his rookie year, on terrible efficiency (40.7% from the field and 30.1% from long range).
The Suns have gotten big-time contributions from unexpected places to stay afloat.
Collin Gillespie, who averaged just 4.8 points per game through his first two NBA seasons, has blossomed into a 13.1-point scorer and is converting his 7.2 shots from distance per contest at a 41.8% clip.
His offense is a big reason why Phoenix is 2-0 straight up against Minnesota this season, but another Suns guard appears likely to steal his thunder in Round 3.
Minnesota has all the tools to be a contender on paper, but can't seem to get the job done.
Anthony Edwards is averaging a career-high 29.5 points, Rudy Gobert is still an elite rim protector, Jaden McDaniels has evolved into an even better 3-and-D wing, and Naz Reid ranks second in total bench points (902).
However, the Timberwolves have struggled to hold leads and close games this season. Whether they can overcome mental lapses to avoid losing their fifth contest in six outings remains to be seen, especially with Edwards out of commission and Reid's status up in the air.
Julius Randle could need to put together an impressive performance to help the hosts come out on top.
Mark Williams (foot) and Brooks (hand) have been ruled out for Phoenix. Edwards (knee) has been ruled out for Minnesota, while Reid (shoulder) is listed as questionable.
Suns vs Timberwolves Predictions, Betting Analysis
Gillespie scored at least 19 points in both of his matchups with the Timberwolves this season. However, Green's recent surge has cut into the former Villanova Wildcat's production.
Green is averaging a career-low 25.1 minutes per game in 2025-26, but has logged at least 30 minutes in eight consecutive games. He's posted 24.6 points on 20.0 shot attempts per game during that stretch.
It's clear that Phoenix is making his shot volume and comfort a priority, so bettors should expect his aggression to persist in this matchup.
Action PRO is projecting 24.2 points for Green in tonight's game.
Pick: Jalen Green Over 22.5 Points (-112)
