Cade Cunningham Assists
The Pistons look to bounce back after a Game 1 loss to the 8-seeded Magic.
In the series opener, Detroit struggled to get anything going outside of Cade Cunningham. He tried to involve his teammates but only converted four assists despite racking up 17 potentials.
Prior to Game 1, Cade had recorded double-digit dimes in all three of his other matchups against Orlando this season.
Orlando was sending double-teams and a ton of help at Cade, but his teammates simply didn't convert in Game 1.
Detroit is also nearly a double-digit favorite tonight, and the regulars know that Cade’s assists as a double-digit favorite have been an auto-bet this season.
This is a must-win game for Detroit, and I expect them to play as such.
Pick: Cade Cunningham Over 9.5 Assists (-113)
Ausar Thompson Rebounds & Assists
As I previously noted, Detroit is in a definitive must-win spot. While I have little confidence in JB Bickerstaff’s ability to make the necessary tactical adjustments, it is obvious that he needs to give Ausar Thompson—a top-three DPOY finalist—a significantly larger role.
Ausar logged 25 minutes in Game 1, which should be the absolute floor for his workload tonight.
When he sees at least 25 minutes of action, his counting stats accumulate naturally; even alongside high-usage teammates like Cade and Jalen Duren, he averages 10.0 Rebounds + Assists (RA) in those games. He has cleared this line in 81.3% of those contests, including a current streak of 13 straight.
Detroit desperately needs Ausar’s defensive versatility to contain Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero. I’m betting on his minutes—and the production—to be there tonight.
