Spurs vs Magic NBA Preview
After coming over from Memphis in a blockbuster offseason trade, Desmond Bane needed some time to adjust to his new team.
Since a five-game stretch in which he scored in single digits four times, Bane has scored at least 15 points in each of his last 11 games, punctuated by the last two.
Bane has scored 37 points in each of his last two games, helping the Magic secure victories over the Pistons and Bulls.
In the process, he became the fourth Magic player to score 35+ in back-to-back games and the first since Tracy McGrady 21 years ago.
On Monday, Bane scored 18 of his points in the fourth, which is a great sign for the Magic after they were 28th in clutch points last season.
This season, Orlando is fourth in offensive rating in clutch games while winning six of 10 games in clutch time.
Franz Wagner added 25 points and is now averaging 22.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists this season. He is a strong bet to be a first-time All-Star this season.
The next step for the Magic will be getting Wagner and Bane to gel as a trio when Banchero returns. Banchero has missed the last nine games with a groin injury, and he will be out once again today.
Another player who has stepped up in his absence is Anthony Black. The third-year guard has four 20-point games this season, with two coming in his last three games: 31 against Philadelphia and 22 on Monday.
The Magic will welcome the Spurs tonight, who will be traveling on the second night of a back-to-back.
However, they will do so in a good mood after defeating the Grizzlies 126-119 last night.
De'Aaron Fox led the way with 29 points, four assists, and two steals. He is averaging 24.1 points and 6.6 assists per game this season.
However, the surprise of the night was Harrison Barnes, who scored 31 points and knocked down seven 3-pointers. He thoroughly dominated his matchup with Jaren Jackson Jr., who scored just seven points.
Like the Magic, the Spurs will be without their star player once again as Victor Wembanyama will miss another game with a calf injury and remains without a timetable for his return.
They will also be without Stephon Castle, who did not travel with the team on their upcoming road trip as he recovers from a hip flexor injury.
Wembanyama has missed the last eight games, while Castle has missed the last seven. Despite that, the Spurs have won six of their last eight games.
They recently got Dylan Harper back, and his game is already translating to the NBA. The rookie had 15 points and six assists in 21 minutes last night.
Spurs vs Magic Prediction, Betting Analysis
Bane enters tonight's game having scored 20 points in six of his last 10 games, averaging 23.9 per game.
In that span, he has knocked at least two 3-pointers in seven games. The Spurs allow the fifth-most catch-and-shoot field goals (12.2) and the sixth-most 3s (14.4) per game.
Given that tendency, it is not a surprise that a shooter of Bane's caliber has enjoyed a lot of success against the Spurs.
He has scored 20 points in each of his last four games against the Spurs while with the Grizzlies, averaging 23.3 per game in that span. I'll back him to score 24 tonight.
His new teammate, Wagner, also scored 20 points in his last four games against the Spurs, as well as in eight of his last 10 games.
Meanwhile, Black has 12+ points in seven of his last eight games, and Harper has scored 12+ points in seven of his last 10 games.
For a game with a total of over 230 points, 60+ points between the four of them should be feasible.
Pick: Desmond Bane Over 23.5 Points (-116, DraftKings)
