Maryland Terrapins Football

The Maryland Terrapins haven’t had a winning season since their inaugural campaign in the Big Ten (2014) in which they went 7-6. Since then, they’ve gone a combined 23-43, including 2-3 last season, with only five games played due to COVID-19 issues. However, with six recruits ranked inside ESPN's Top 300 coming to campus this fall, there’s room for some optimism.

Sportsbooks think this improvement might take the Terrapins some time, giving them the second-worst odds to win the Big Ten in 2021. See all of the Terrapins odds above, as well as their full schedule, depth charts, against-the-spread (ATS) record, key injuries and much more.

Maryland Terrapins Point Spreads

Being stuck in the East Division of the Big Ten means yearly games against Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State for the Terrapins. If you think the Terrapins are going to perform well but winning the game outright is a bridge too far, consider betting on their point spreads.

Point spreads are a type of wager in which the underdog (plus odds) only has to keep the score within a certain margin to win the bet. For example:

  • Maryland +27.5 (-110)
  • Penn State -27.5 (-110)

If Maryland loses 35-10, it still wins against the spread (ATS) because it lost by fewer than 27.5 points. Penn State needs to win by 28 or more to “cover” its side of the spread.

Maryland Terrapins Over/Unders

Another common bet is an over/under, or total, bet. With this type of bet, you’re wagering not on how well the Terrapins do against their opponent, but on the total number of points scored in the contest.

For example, if books set the total for the game against Penn State at 53, and the final score is 35-19, over bettors win since the combined score (54) is over the total. For the under to win, 52 or fewer combined points would be needed. Notice I didn’t say which team had 35 and which had 19 — with totals bets, it doesn’t matter.

Maryland Terrapins Moneylines

Moneylines are bets one can make on which team will win the game outright. Why would somebody bet on the Terrapins moneyline against, say, Ohio State? Well, to account for the relative likelihood of either team to win the game, oddsmakers adjust the payouts to be more for the underdog (plus odds) and less for the favored (minus odds) teams.

The Terrapins might be +950 underdogs against OSU, meaning a $100 bet would pay a $950 profit if Maryland won. Betting on a -950 favorite against Maryland means you’d need to put $950 on the line to get a $100 profit in return.

Maryland Terrapins Props

Just tuning in to the Terrapins to see how QB Taulia Tagovailoa does in his first full season since transferring from Alabama? You can make it a little more interesting by betting on his player props.

Proposition, or prop, bets are wagers on how one player will do in a game. For example, you could bet over or under on Tagovailoa's passing yards, rushing yards, completions and much more. You can bet on most skill position players depending on the sportsbook.

Maryland Terrapins Futures

Sportsbooks have set Maryland's win total future at six for the coming 2021 season. Futures are bets on the entire season for a team or player. You can bet over/under on team wins, player statistics for the whole season, as well as get odds on Maryland to win the Big 10 or players to win certain awards.
