Records continue to fall in the Keystone State.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced that the state generated $557.7 million in gaming revenue in July, marking an 11.36% increase from July 2024.

This growth was largely driven by the online gaming sector, which brought in $228.2 million—a 30.9% rise compared to the previous year.

This happens after strong months in June and May, plus the state entered into a new era of online gaming when it became the sixth to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).

BetMGM and Borgata Poker were the first to offer online poker games to players in Pennsylvania that connect with other states. Soon, other platforms like PokerStars and WSOP.com are expected to join. This new feature has been positively received by poker rooms and players in Pennsylvania, leading to more innovation and competition in online gaming

Which Casinos in Pennsylvania Fared Best?

Among individual operators, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville led the pack, with $103.4 million in revenue, representing a jump of more than 30% from June 2024.

Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia reported $88.8 million in revenue, up more than 19% from July 2024's $74.5 million. Rivers Casino Philadelphia posted $57.5 million, an increase of almost 17% from June 2024's figure of $49.3 million.

Pennsylvania's gaming industry continues on an upward trajectory, with strong contributions from both physical casinos and online gaming platforms, solidifying its status as a leading state for online casino revenue in the U.S.

Pennsylvania's gaming revenue increase was driven by various factors in different gaming areas regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:

  1. Online Gaming (iGaming): The biggest boost came from online gaming, where revenue jumped by 30.94% to $228.26 million, showing strong growth in online casinos. The tax collected from this was $103.87 million.

  2. Slot Machines: Revenue from slot machines went up by 2.07% to reach $208.54 million, even though there were slightly fewer slot machines than in July 2024.

  3. Sports Betting: Even though people bet a bit less overall (down 0.53%), the revenue from taxed sports bets increased by 5.22%, reaching $40.58 million. The tax income from sports betting was $14.61 million.

  4. Table Games: Revenue from table games at casinos fell by 3.97% to $76.23 million, which slightly reduced the total gains.

  5. Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs): Earnings from VGTs dropped slightly by 1.05%, totaling $3.46 million.

The major growth in online gaming and increased revenue from sports betting, combined with steady slot machine performance, were the main reasons for the overall rise in gaming revenue for July.
