Sunderland vs. Newcastle
Newcastle are ranked ninth in the home table in the Premier League, with 1.73 points per match on average. They have a strong attack at St. James’ Park, scoring 28 goals in 15 games – only Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United scored more at home.
Newcastle failed to score at home only once this season, so doing it against Sunderland, who allowed 21 goals in 15 away matches, shouldn’t be a problem.
Sunderland, on the other hand, are 17th in the away table with 0.93 points per game on average. They scored just eight goals in 15 matches – the second-worst away attack after Wolverhampton.
Newcastle showed improvement in the Premier League recently, as they have beaten both Manchester United and Chelsea, who are higher in the standings.
The Champions League elimination (after Barcelona thrashed them 7-2 in the second leg), plus the significance of this rivalry game in combination with a reverse fixture 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, make this one a must-win for Newcastle.
Pick: Newcastle Moneyline
Nottingham Forest vs. Tottenham
Tottenham looked to be heading towards the relegation zone, but a couple of stronger performances have lifted the mood around the club. That’s why we are backing the home side to win this crucial clash against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 midweek. The result wasn’t enough for them to progress in the Champions League, but the performance showed that Spurs are a capable team.
Igor Tudor’s side had 18 shots and finished the game with 1.37 more xG (expected goals) than Atletico Madrid. They should have no problems creating chances against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham also showed fight in their last Premier League game, securing a 1-1 draw after going behind against Liverpool at Anfield.
If they can show that level of commitment once again, they should have what it takes ot get the better of a Forest side that had very little time to prepare thanks to their Thursday night game in Denmark.
Nottingham Forest have struggled away from home this season, winning just four of their 15 Premier League games on the road, losing eight. During that run, they have scored 15 goals, nine fewer than they have conceded.
Pick: Tottenham Moneyline
West Ham vs. Aston Villa
Aston Villa played 90 hard-fought minutes against Lille on Thursday evening in the UEFA Europa League, and the physical and mental toll will probably affect them on Sunday against West Ham.
This is a Hammers outfit that has produced their best football in recent months. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has harnessed their good form and momentum and now finds themselves level on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th.
The 10-game Premier League form table has West Ham in seventh. Their points return of 15 in the past 10 games is reflective of a team chasing European qualification in the top seven, not a side fighting for Premier League survival in 18th.
That should be a concern for those around them in the relegation battle, and it might prove concerning for Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Unfortunately for West Ham, they’ll be without Crycencio Summerville due to injury. His output on the left flank has been transformational for this side.
Instead, the Hammers will likely focus attacks down the right-hand side via Jarrod Bowen — an equally dangerous forward.
There’s no drop-off in quality between the two, but Villa should find it much easier to deal with one major threat instead of two on either flank.
