The final day of the Round of 16 delivers two fascinating matchups in Atlanta and Vancouver. The defending champions Argentina close out the round against a resilient Egypt side, followed by an intriguing battle between Colombia and Switzerland. Two picks. Let’s get into it.
Here are my goal scorer picks and World Cup player props for Tuesday, July 7.

Julian Alvarez — Anytime Goalscorer vs. Egypt (+135)
Argentina are making a change up front and I believe it’s the right call.
Alvarez steps into the starting lineup for the first time at this tournament after Lautaro Martinez managed just one goal in four appearances. Julian Alvarez is a better fit alongside Messi. His relentless pressing, sharp movement and clinical finishing in tight spaces complement the way Messi plays and recent history backs it up.
At Qatar 2022, Alvarez began as a substitute before replacing Martinez and finishing as Argentina’s second-highest scorer with four goals in seven appearances, including a brace in the semifinal against Croatia.
He has scored 14 goals in 54 international appearances and set a Champions League record this season as the fastest South American to reach 25 goals in the competition, doing so in just 41 appearances.
Messi’s anytime goalscorer odds are now -185, which is obviously too much juice. Alvarez at +135 is where the value lives for the defending champions today. Back “La Araña” to come alive in his first start.

Breel Embolo — Anytime Goalscorer vs. Colombia (+230)
Switzerland’s leading scorer at the tournament, Johan Manzambi, is out injured and that provides a need for their second leading scorer to make an impact.
Embolo already has two goals in this World Cup and he is also the designated penalty taker, giving him a direct route to the scoresheet. He is Switzerland’s most physically imposing forward, a target man who thrives when he is the focal point of the attack rather than a secondary option.
He scored Switzerland’s opening-game penalty against Qatar to register his 25th international goal and is one of only five players to have scored multiple goals at both the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
Colombia are a dangerous side, but they are not defensively airtight. They’ve conceded in three of their four matches at this tournament. With Manzambi out, Embolo will get even more chances in what should be a hard-fought, physical contest. Back him to deliver at a great price.
Good luck!
