Fever vs. Tempo Preview

The Fever were always going to be overwhelming favorites in this matchup. The Eastern Conference powerhouse ranks fifth in the overall standings and has already knocked off the Tempo twice this year by an average of 14.5 points. Caitlin Clark (back) carries a probable designation on the injury report after returning from playing for Team USA, but is extremely likely to return to her usual role alongside Kelsey Mitchell in the backcourt. Toronto, on the other hand, won't have all of its most important offensive weapons.

Toronto has already ruled out several key scorers for the remainder of the season. Marina Mabrey (adductor) and Brittney Sykes (foot) are among those players. The Tempo's leading duo has posted 39.4 points per game together so far in 2026, and that production will be extremely hard to replace. Especially against the WNBA's top-ranked scoring offense.

Clark and Mitchell combined for a ridiculous 53.3 points per game in August. Both guards shot better than 47.0% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc during that stretch. No Tempo player has shown that she can combat that kind of efficiency from volume scorers. However, someone has to step it up. Two candidates stand out since Sykes last played at the end of last month.

Rookie guard Kiki Rice and veteran forward Isabelle Harrison have both posted at least 15.0 points per game over their previous four outings. Rice has operated as the lead scorer (15.5 points per game) and playmaker (4.8 assists per game) during that stretch. Meanwhile, Harrison has flirted with a double-double average by posting 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. Both players likely have to show up in a big way for Toronto for this game to get interesting.

Fever vs. Tempo Prediction

Rice has clearly been handed the keys to the offense. The UCLA product has racked up five dimes in three of her previous four appearances and four in the other contest and managed to notch six in her lone meeting with the Fever this year. Her six-assist performance came playing alongside Mabrey and Sykes.

Indiana boasts the league's most dynamic offense, but it's far from an elite defensive team. The Fever's bottom-four scoring defense will be vulnerable to Rice's passing and forked up 95 points to Toronto exactly one month ago.

Best Bet: Kiki Rice Over 4.5 Assists (-104, DraftKings)
