Hull started the season unexpectedly well, collecting six points from their first two games. They are playing in a low block with five players at the back, looking for chances mainly through counterattacks and set pieces. So far, they have scored three goals — two from set pieces and one from a counterattack. After such a strong start, the Tigers should be more than happy with a low-scoring draw against an Aston Villa side that desperately needs points. Interestingly, despite relying heavily on set pieces, Hull have struggled to generate them. They have produced only three corners in two games, with only Crystal Palace having fewer (two). I expect the Tigers to compact the box, give possession to Villa and defend with nine players behind the ball. They currently have the lowest average possession in the league at 29.9% and the fourth-worst xG. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have opened the season poorly, losing to two strong sides in Brighton and Arsenal. They made plenty of changes during the summer and lost some key players, so they will need time to adjust. More concerning, however, is that they are yet to score and haven't registered a single shot on target. While many pundits are backing Hull after their strong start, I still believe Villa are the better team, so I would stay away from backing the Tigers. If Villa score, they should be capable of controlling the game and keeping their net intact.
