The Detroit Lions top my list of best survivor pool picks today. The Lions are seven-point home favorites at Ford Field against a New Orleans Saints team that ranked 28th in scoring last season at 18.0 points per game. The Saints open on the road for the first time since 2022.

New Orleans let real production walk this offseason. Demario Davis signed with the Jets after a career-high 143 tackles, cornerback Alontae Taylor left for Tennessee, and center Luke Fortner and tight end Foster Moreau both moved on.

Their replacements are lacking. Signing Kaden Elliss and then asking a draft class to contribute early, with no proven veteran brought in at corner. Cameron Jordan returned for a final season, but is out for the first three weeks, further hampering a defense that leaned on him last season.

Detroit has the opposite problem, which is too much talent to fit in one sentence. Jared Goff made the Pro Bowl in an offense that scored 481 points, fourth-most in the league, with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta around him and first-team All-Pro Penei Sewell in front.

Aidan Hutchinson and first-team All-Pro Jack Campbell headline the other side. The series sits level at 13-13-1, but the Saints have won only one of their three September trips to Detroit.
