Head-to-Head. These teams met in Norman last September and finished 24-13. That game produced 37 points, six and a half under Saturday's total. Oklahoma leads the series 2-0, and the 1976 Orange Bowl ended 14-6. Three meetings, no shootouts.
Run Heavy. Kyle Whittingham spent 21 seasons at Utah, winning on physical defense and a heavy run game. Brent Venables enters year five with a front that posted four sacks and 10 tackles for loss on UTEP, and his defense held Bryce Underwood to 9-of-24 for 142 yards in that same meeting. Underwood threw 11 touchdowns against nine picks as a freshman, then managed 170 yards against a MAC team last week.
Arizona State at Texas A&M: Texas A&M to win (87%)
Head-to-Head Texas A&M beat No. 15 Arizona State 38-17 in Houston in 2015, and the pass rush decided it. The Aggies recorded nine sacks, their most in a game since 1995, after Arizona State closed to 17-14.
Scheme & the Road. Marcus Arroyo runs a pistol offense built on rhythm and pre-snap communication, and Arizona State converted just 33% of its third downs last season, 120th nationally.
Cutter Boley makes his first road start in front of 107,000 people, against a Mike Elko front that held Missouri State to 67 total yards. The Sun Devils went 16-1 over three seasons when holding opponents under 24 points, and Kyle Field makes that unlikely.
