After an underwhelming opening nine holes, Justin Thomas caught fire after the turn with four birdies across his final eight holes to finish T23. At -105, he is worth backing to maintain that momentum for the remainder of the week.
Playing just under 7,000 yards with above-average penalties for missed fairways, Sedgefield Country Club rewards precision and the ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities by making birdie putts.
Last year, both of the top two finishers ranked inside the top seven in the field in strokes gained: putting. No other strokes-gained category showed a similar trend.
This setup makes Thomas a strong target in this market.
The putter is one of Thomas' strongest clubs in the bag, though he has not shown many weaknesses elsewhere. Entering this week, he ranks in the 87th percentile in strokes gained: putting.
It is therefore not surprising that he finished T12 in his latest appearance at Sedgefield.
A similar performance could be in store this year, given his recent form. Thomas has finished inside the top 20 in six of his past eight tournaments.
Alex Noren Top-20 (+168 at DraftKings)
Another golfer worth targeting in this market is Alex Noren. Producing an equally strong opening round, Noren is tied with Thomas at 4-under par.
At +168, it's also worth taking a shot on Noren to maintain this momentum as the week progresses.
Like Thomas, Noren fits this course well.
This season, he ranks in the 92nd percentile in strokes gained: putting. A well-rounded player, Noren also excels at keeping the ball in play, which is advantageous at Sedgefield.
Last year, six of the top seven finishers ranked inside the top 15 in the field in driving accuracy and strokes gained: off the tee. This season, Noren ranks in the 53rd percentile in strokes gained: off the tee and in the 86th percentile in driving accuracy.
He finished T3 here last year and looks to secure another strong placement.
