Clippers vs Warriors NBA Preview

After opening as a 1.5-point dog, the Clippers are now a 2-point favorite when they visit the Warriors on Tuesday night.

Even with Los Angeles winning the last seven games in this series, the line move remains somewhat suspicious, considering I have the Warriors listed higher in my power ratings.

However, only two other possibilities could explain the line movement.

Either the Warriors added a key player to their injury report, or the market shifted support to the Clippers, with Golden State playing the second leg of a back-to-back.

Generally, if you can't see the angle, you're better off sitting on the sidelines than trying to force a play.

What I can tell you is that since the 2020 season, the Warriors are 5-3-1 against the spread as a home underdog on short rest.

Despite their recent struggles, the Warriors are only four years removed from winning their seventh NBA title.

While the duo of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green chase their fifth title, Jimmy Butler III has yet to get his hands on the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

With Butler now 36, he'll know full well that the clock is ticking on his title aspirations. He's currently on a two-year deal with the Warriors following his trade from the Heat.

Although Butler can be a tumultuous figure at times, I expect him to be on his best behavior playing with veterans like Curry and Green, who are proven winners.

It's not just about wanting to win for Butler; he also wants to be around those who also want it just as much as he does.

Since the switch to Golden State before the trade deadline, Butler made only one appearance against the Clippers in the regular season finale. That game went to overtime, with Los Angeles prevailing 124-119.

As the Warriors prepare for another encounter, you can imagine their briefings will include a blurb about their seven-game losing streak in the series.

However, this skid shouldn't have any effect on Butler because he wasn't around for those six other defeats.

Now, after having a full preseason with his new teammates under his belt, Butler can play the role of a conquering hero if he can help the Warriors bring an end to this streak.

Clippers vs Warriors Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Warriors need Butler to be a scorer, as I view him as an upgrade to Andrew Wiggins, who was also a part of the midseason trade.

It's not that Wiggins was necessarily a bad player; he just lacked the aggression and intensity you'd expect from a former No. 1 overall pick.

Butler feels like a better fit for the Warriors at the moment, and he can almost fly under the radar without the spotlight of being the team's best player.

His points + rebounds + assists prop is available at 27.5, which feels short for a player who has covered that number in eight of his previous nine home games, with an average of 38.2 and a median of 39.

If we look at the head-to-head numbers, Butler has also exceeded this prop line in five of his last six meetings against the Clippers.

This handicap is all about taking responsibility, and as the newcomer, I expect Butler to put the onus on himself to help the Warriors finally end this skid.

Pick: Jimmy Butler Over 27.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-115, bet365)
