Heat vs Mavericks NBA Preview

On Saturday night, the Heat saw their six-game winning streak come to an end against the Pistons.

However, they quickly responded with a 140-123 thumping of the Clippers.

Miami led by over 30 points much of the second half while all five starters were in double digits.

Norman Powell led the way with 30 points and six 3-pointers against his former team, while Bam Adebayo had 27 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the past five games.

Miami tied a franchise record with 24 threes while scoring 140 points for the fifth time this season.

The Heat's recent surge has vaulted it into the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

Over its last eight games, Miami ranks 11th in offensive rating, second in defensive rating, and fifth in net rating.

Tonight, they will head to Dallas, where Adebayo will battle with his Olympic teammate, Anthony Davis, down low.

Davis has been limited to seven games this season, and he returned to the Mavericks lineup last Friday, also returning to Los Angeles.

He had 32 points and 13 rebounds on Monday night as the Mavericks upset the Nuggets in Denver.

However, the biggest story out of Dallas right now is the level of their rookies.

No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg has begun to figure things out offensively.

He has 59 points in his last two games and has been a consistent factor on the glass as well. Flagg is averaging 17 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season.

Head coach Jason Kidd had been experimenting with Flagg at point guard, and it has resulted in the league's worst offense this season.

However, those duties may be off his plate if Ryan Nembhard keeps up his production.

In just his third career start, the undrafted free agent had 28 points and 10 assists on 12-for-14 from the field.

Heat vs Mavericks Prediction, Betting Analysis

After missing Miami's first 17 games this season, Herro made his season debut against Dallas nine days ago.

He immediately hit the ground running with 24 points in 29 minutes.

Herro has scored 20 points in each of his first four games while averaging 24.8 points per game with 54/54/94 shooting splits.

While he is due for some shooting regression, there may be more shots available tonight as Norman Powell is questionable with a left ankle sprain.

This is a matchup he should thrive in with his mid-range game.

In the last meeting, he scored all his points on 2-point attempts, going 12-for-18 from the field.

Dallas is also allowing 28.2 free throw attempts per game, the second-most in the league.

Davion Mitchell may assist with a few baskets. He had just four assists in the first meeting, but he has recorded six or more in six of his last seven games.

That includes 31 assists over his last three games. Dallas is allowing the fifth-most assists per game to point guards.

Meanwhile, Flagg has picked up his scoring of late, although the rebounds have been there all season, with at least five in 16 of his last 17 games.

He has pulled down seven rebounds or more in each of his last six games, including in the first meeting.

Miami is allowing the fourth-most rebounds in the league over its last 10 games.

Pick: Tyler Herro Over 21.5 Points (-120, DraftKings)
