NBA First Basket Prop Picks: Jayson Tatum, Al Horford

The Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night after suffering a tough defeat in Game 1.

With Joel Embiid expected to miss Game 2, Al Horford (43% opening tip win rate) will face 76ers center Paul Reed (75% win rate) in the opening tipoff.  In Game 1, Horford initially won the tip, but Maxey was not in the correct location so the referees opted to redo it.  On the second tipoff, Horford oddly did not make an attempt to control the tip.

The 76ers have scored first in four of five games this season against the Celtics.  Joel Embiid (twice), Tobias Harris and James Harden have all cashed first basket tickets for Philadelphia, while Marcus Smart cashed the lone first basket for Boston.

Given the odd tipoff in Game 1 and the pressure the Celtics face heading into Game 2, I like them to score first.  Tatum put up 39 points in Game 1 and was very aggressive in getting to the free throw line. I'll pair him with Horford to get the game's first basket.
