The Cleveland Cavaliers head south on the second night of a back-to-back to take on the Atlanta Hawks. Jarrett Allen (65% opening tip win rate) will face off against Clint Capela (39% win rate) on the opening tip-off.
Surprisingly, Capela won all four tips versus Allen last year, but Allen won the tip in their only matchup this season. Capela has struggled recently on opening tips, having won just one of his last ten tip-offs.
Additionally, Atlanta has scored first just once in the last ten games. With this also being the first game for the Hawks since the firing of head coach Nate McMillan, it will be interesting to see how the team responds tonight. I think Cleveland will win the tip tonight and score first.
Defensively, the Hawks have allowed the center, power forward or point guard to score the first opposing field goal in 73% of games this season.
Evan Mobley has taken the first shot attempt in 10 of the last 20 games for the Cavaliers, and has scored Cleveland’s first team basket in 8 of the last 20 games.
I’ll take Mobley and Darius Garland to score first tonight for Cleveland.
Pick: Darius Garland First Field Goal (+600 0.5 units)
Pick: Evan Mobley First Basket (+600, 0.5 units)
