Providence vs Colorado College Basketball Betting Preview

Colorado Basketball

Colorado had low expectations coming into the year and was picked 15th in the Big 12 preseason poll.

The media members and college basketball fans alike could clearly see the weaknesses permeating throughout Tad Boyle’s roster.

The Buffs brought back four players from last year, but none played more than 20 minutes per game. Boyle brought in two mid-major transfers and a host of freshmen, zigging while most of his power-conference competition zagged and focused on acquiring old, experienced vets through the portal.

As a result of this youthful, talent-weak roster, Colorado has been on the ropes in both its games this season against mid-major foes.

Providence Basketball

Providence hasn’t looked stellar either, but the Friars are undoubtedly the more talented and offensively explosive team in this matchup.

Kim English has clearly taken influence from new assistant coach Bryan Tibaldi and has ramped up the pace on what was essentially a half-court attack in his first two seasons.

Providence is playing at a top 25 offensive pace this season and has already topped the century mark twice —that’s once more than English’s teams have done in the past two years combined.

Providence vs. Colorado Betting Analysis

This game could be a “defense optional” affair. Colorado hasn’t been able to stop Eastern Washington or Montana State, so the new high-powered Providence offense should have no trouble scoring.

The Buffs can’t force turnovers, they can’t get stops in the paint and Jason Edwards will feast from deep off Boyle’s more packed-in defensive shell.

On the other end, Providence has been poor defensively as well, following in last season's footsteps when it ranked 134th in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency stat.

Colorado will pound the ball into the post and get to the bucket, an area it ranks fourth nationally in field goal attempt rate.

Providence big man Oswin Erhunmwunse is a great shot blocker, but he’s a bit thin, and the Friars have no depth behind him.

And if Providence proves to be stout inside, Colorado forwards Sebastian Rancik and Bangot Dak are skilled enough to pull the Friar bigs out from under the hoop and into space.

High tempo and poor defense = the recipe for an over.

My Pick: Over 163.5
