Cougars 2023 Schedule & Betting Odds
Washington State Cougars Football
After beating Oregon State in the opener, it was all downhill for the Cougars, as they lost the final three games of their extremely abbreviated 2020 season. Head coach Nick Rolovich is hoping that a full season will do him and the Cougars some good coming into 2021.
Things are looking up according to the sportsbooks. Preseason betting markets expect the Cougars to finish right around .500, which would be a step in the right direction.

Washington State Cougars Point Spreads
Oddsmakers didn’t think much of the Cougars last year, listing them as underdogs against the spread in every single game. With spread bets, underdogs don’t have to win the game, just lose by less than the spread; favorites, meanwhile, have to win by more than the spread for their tickets to win. In this way, spreads aren’t just bets on who wins the game, but by how much.
Here’s an example of a Cougars spread:
- Washington State +8.5 (-110)
- Washington -8.5 (-110)
If the Cougars lose the game, 21-13, their spread bettors are still winners. Washington bets need a win of nine points or more to pay off. Of course, if Washington State wins the game outright, this is a win against the spread, too.
Washington State Cougars Over/Unders
Instead of betting on how much they’ll win or lose by, you could also bet on how many points the Cougars and their opponents will score collectively. This is called an over/under (or totals) bet. Oddsmakers pick a number, and you can bet whether the teams will score more (over) or less (under) than that many points.
With a total of 59 points, a 29-43 game against Washington would be a winner if you’re holding an over ticket, while unders were hoping for 58 or fewer points. It doesn’t matter which team had 43 — totals are all about the points.
Washington State Cougars Moneylines
With their lackluster record last year, you might be wondering why anybody bet on the Cougars moneyline, since moneyline bets are just wagers on which team will win the game. The answer is that teams expected to lose, underdogs, pay their bettors out more if they do win.
Let’s use the game against Washington to illustrate. Say the Cougars are +305 underdogs: In this scenario, a $100 moneyline bet would pay out $305 in profit if State takes home the victory. For games they’re -305 favorites in, you’d have to bet $305 to get only $100 in return. It's easiest to use $100 wagers when thinking about moneylines, but the math works for any increment.
Washington State Cougars Props
Despite not having any household names, there will still be plenty of player props available on the Cougars this fall. Player props are bets on individual players and are perfect for the fantasy football fan who enjoys projecting and tracking player stats.
Some props you could place on the Cougars in 2021 include over/unders on WR Calvin Jackson's receptions, QB Jayden de Laura's passing touchdowns, and RB Max Borghi's all-purpose yards, among many more.
Washington State Cougars Futures
Instead of betting on a single game, you could also place a bet on the whole season for the Cougars. These bets are called futures, and they usually settle up when the season finishes or the result is obvious — whichever comes first.
Examples of Cougars futures for 2021 include over/under on their number of wins throughout the season, their odds to win the Pac-12 and various player awards markets.
