Utah vs Kansas College Football Betting Preview
Utah Utes Betting Preview: Impactful Injuries Cause Concern
When Utah wins this season, it has typically been in dominant fashion. The Utes have six victories of 30-plus points and own an average margin of victory of 31.8.
But they got all they could handle from Kansas State last week.
Utah trailed by 10 at halftime and by 12 with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter before rallying to pull off a 51-47 victory. The Utes will still need help to reach the College Football Playoff, but their hopes would have been dashed without the comeback.
Uncharacteristically, Utah surrendered 472 rushing yards to Kansas State, the most in a loss by a Division I team in eight years.
The Utes entered last week’s game surrendering 143.1 rushing yards per game and still rank 27th in Rushing Success Rate allowed.
The defense will suffer another blow this week with the loss of defensive end John Henry Daley.
The redshirt sophomore left Saturday’s game after recording 3.5 tackles and two sacks in the first quarter and returned to the sideline with his foot in a walking boot. He'll miss the rest of the season with what the team is calling a “long-term lower body” injury. Daley is tied for second in the FBS with 11.5 sacks.
Utah survived last week behind quarterback Devon Dampier, who threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns while adding 94 yards and two scores on the ground.
Dampier has accounted for 2,664 total yards, 26 total touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64% of his passes. He ranks eighth in the FBS in QBR.
Last week, he didn't have leading receiver Ryan Davis for much of the game, and even when he was on the field, he didn't record a catch. Davis leads the team with 57 receptions for 659 yards but is out again for this week.
In addition, All-American offensive tackle Spencer Fano is banged up as well and remains questionable.
Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview: Searching for a Bowl
This game may not have the same stakes for Kansas as it does for Utah, but the Jayhawks still have reasons to compete — starting with the chance to play spoiler.
It's also Senior Day in the home finale, and 33 seniors will be honored before the game. Chief among them will be quarterback Jalon Daniels, who surpassed 9,000 passing yards last week to join a very selective group of signal-callers.
Daniels is one of 10 Big 12 quarterbacks to have 9,000 career passing yards, 60 career passing touchdowns and 20 career rushing touchdowns, joining a list that includes Patrick Mahomes, Robert Griffin III, Baker Mayfield and Colt McCoy, among others.
As a redshirt senior, he has put together his best season. He has thrown for 2,344 yards and 21 touchdowns while completing 64.4% of his passes and adding 370 yards and three scores on the ground.
His top target, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., will also be among the honorees. Though he has spent just one year with the program, his presence has paid immediate dividends this season, as he has 42 receptions for 653 yards and five touchdowns.
Henderson will look to bounce back after being limited to one catch for 15 yards at Iowa State last week.
Senior tight end Boden Groen picked up the slack with five receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown, but it was a rough week in Ames for the Jayhawks overall.
Kansas trailed, 17-0, at halftime. It cut the lead to 10 in the third quarter but still surrendered 462 total yards in a 38-14 defeat.
In the process, the Jayhawks missed out on clinching bowl eligibility. That's something that can't be taken for granted in Lawrence, as they have reached a bowl game in two of the last three years under head coach Lance Leipold after making just seven bowl games in the previous 41 seasons.
With one more chance to reach that sixth win, Kansas will need to come up with more stops, which has proven problematic of late. The team has allowed at least 35 points in four of its last seven Big 12 games and over 400 yards in three of them.
Kansas ranks 81st in scoring defense and 80th in total defense this season.
Giving up big plays has been an issue, as it ranks 125th in explosiveness allowed, which means this Utah offense is not a great matchup.

Utah vs Kansas Pick, Betting Analysis
This will be just the fifth time Utah and Kansas have met all-time, and the first since the Utes joined the Big 12.
Kansas will look to replicate the offensive success of its in-state rival, Kansas State, particularly on the ground.
However, its defense is going to struggle to get many stops this week. As a unit, the Jayahwks sit in the bottom 10 in the FBS in Finishing Drives allowed.
Meanwhile, Utah is 8-3 to the over this season following last week's wild finish. It has scored 40 points in eight of its nine wins, and it's a double-digit favorite this week.
Additionally, it has given up 75 points in its last two games and is now without its best defender.
There's certainly a path to 60 points despite a bit of rain in the forecast, particularly with Utah's explosiveness on the ground.
Pick: Over 59.5
