Las Vegas is built on spectacle. Bright signs, casino floors, massive resorts, and all-night entertainment make the Strip feel almost unreal. But beneath the glitter is another side of Sin City: stories of haunted hotel rooms, ghostly figures, unexplained sounds, and tragedies that still shape the city’s legends.

A haunted casino Las Vegas story is rarely just about a ghost. It often begins with a real event—a fire, a famous crime, a mob connection, or a mysterious death. Over time, eyewitness accounts, rumors, and local folklore turn those events into some of the most talked-about paranormal tales in Nevada.

There are other casinos across the U.S. that are haunting, but here are seven casinos and casino hotels connected to Las Vegas ghost stories. These reports are not scientific proof of paranormal activity, but they remain a fascinating part of the city’s history.

1. Luxor Hotel & Casino

The Luxor is one of the most recognizable buildings on the Las Vegas Strip. Its black-glass pyramid, Egyptian theme, and powerful sky beam make it stand out from nearly every other resort in the city. It is also regularly mentioned when people search for the most haunted casino in Las Vegas.

Guests and paranormal enthusiasts have described strange experiences inside the pyramid for years. Common reports include cold spots, flickering lights, uneasy feelings in upper-floor rooms, and unexplained movement or sounds near the atrium.

The hotel’s shape adds to its eerie reputation. Unlike a traditional tower hotel, Luxor’s rooms face a large indoor atrium. For some visitors, the open space and steep interior balconies create a dramatic setting that feels more unsettling than a standard casino resort.

Stories about the Luxor also connect the property to construction accidents, deaths, and later tragedies. Some of those claims are difficult to verify, so they should be treated as local legend rather than established fact. Still, the resort’s unusual design and long-running stories have helped make it one of the best-known haunted Las Vegas hotels.

2. Circus Circus

Circus Circus was designed to be playful, colorful, and family-friendly. Yet its bright carnival theme has inspired some of the darkest ghost stories in Las Vegas.

For decades, guests and employees have shared reports of crying children, distant calls for help, unusual writing on mirrors, and shadowy figures in certain areas of the hotel. Stories often point to several room numbers, including Room 123, although these claims are part of casino folklore rather than verified paranormal evidence.

The most repeated legend involves a tragic incident involving a mother and child. Like many long-running hotel ghost stories, details vary from one version to another. That inconsistency makes it important not to treat every retelling as confirmed history.

Even so, Circus Circus continues to rank high on haunted-casino lists because the stories have lasted for generations. The contrast between its circus atmosphere and its unsettling reputation makes it a memorable stop for visitors interested in Las Vegas paranormal lore.

3. Flamingo Las Vegas

The Flamingo is not only one of the most famous casinos in Las Vegas. It is also deeply tied to the city’s mob-era history.

The resort opened in 1946 and became closely associated with Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, the notorious gangster who helped bring glamour and organized-crime money into early Las Vegas development. Siegel was shot and killed in Beverly Hills in June 1947, less than a year after the Flamingo opened.

That history led to one of the Strip’s most famous ghost stories: the alleged spirit of Bugsy Siegel returning to the casino he helped make legendary. Visitors and employees have reportedly claimed to see him near the wedding chapel, in the Presidential Suite, around the pool, or in memorial areas connected with the Flamingo’s past.

There is no verified evidence that Siegel haunts the property. However, the story survives because the Flamingo remains an important link to old Las Vegas. It blends real mob history with the mystery and glamour that visitors expect from a haunted casino story.

4. Horseshoe Las Vegas

Horseshoe Las Vegas stands on the site of the former MGM Grand Hotel, where one of Nevada’s worst disasters took place in 1980. The fire began in a restaurant area and spread deadly smoke through the high-rise building. The tragedy led to major changes in hotel fire-safety practices, including stronger requirements for sprinklers and smoke-control systems.

The building later became Bally’s Las Vegas and is now Horseshoe Las Vegas. Because the property remains connected to the fire, it is often included in discussions of haunted casinos in Las Vegas.

Reported experiences include the smell of smoke where there is no fire, sudden temperature drops, distant screaming, shadow-like figures in hallways, and an unexplained sense of dread on higher floors. Many of these stories focus on areas believed to have been most affected by smoke during the fire.

It is important to separate the documented tragedy from the ghost stories that followed. The fire is history. The paranormal claims are personal reports and local lore. Still, for many visitors, that combination makes Horseshoe one of the most emotionally powerful haunted locations on the Strip.

5. Binion’s and Hotel Apache

Downtown Las Vegas has a very different mood from the Strip. It is older, more compact, and closely tied to the city’s early gambling history. That atmosphere helps explain why Binion’s and its Hotel Apache are frequently included in haunted Las Vegas conversations.

The property has embraced parts of its paranormal reputation rather than avoiding it. Hotel Apache has promoted a haunted VIP experience, and visitors can find public accounts of alleged sightings and strange encounters connected to the building’s historic spaces.

Reports often mention unexplained footsteps, voices, unusual activity in rooms, and the feeling that someone is standing nearby when no one is there. As with other haunted casino claims, these reports are not proof of ghosts. But the property’s age, downtown setting, and strong connection to old Las Vegas give the stories lasting appeal.

For travelers who prefer vintage casino history over massive Strip resorts, Binion’s may be one of the most interesting places to explore.

6. El Cortez

El Cortez is another downtown Las Vegas property with a long history and a reputation for strange activity. The hotel opened in 1941 and later became associated with mob figures, including Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky.

Visitors have reported odd sensations, shadowy movement, and stories involving residual energy from the building’s past. Some legends even mention remains or hidden history beneath parts of the property, though these accounts should be approached carefully because reliable evidence is limited.

What makes El Cortez compelling is not only its ghost lore. It is one of the few places where visitors can still feel the character of old Las Vegas. The vintage design, long casino history, and organized-crime connections create a setting that feels very different from the polished modern Strip.

7. Resorts Beyond Las Vegas

Las Vegas may dominate haunted casino stories, but it is not the only place where gamblers and hotel guests report paranormal experiences.

Data-driven rankings have sometimes highlighted smaller casinos outside Nevada by using regional ghost-sighting data, local crime statistics, and online reviews containing words such as “haunted,” “creepy,” or “spooky.” In one 2025 ranking, Golden West Casino in Bakersfield, California, placed first using a formula that combined local ghost sightings, crime-related measures, casino ratings, and review mentions.

Other lists have included California properties such as Parkwest 580 Casino in Livermore and Konocti Vista Casino & Hotel in Lakeport, along with DK’s Casino in Williston, North Dakota. These results differ from traditional haunted-casino lists because they measure surrounding-area data and review language rather than relying mainly on famous ghost stories.

That difference explains why a small regional casino may perform well in one ranking, while Luxor, Circus Circus, Flamingo, and Horseshoe remain the better-known haunted casinos in popular culture.

Why Haunted Casino Stories Endure

Haunted casino legends are hard to separate from the history of Las Vegas itself. The city has always attracted risk, money, reinvention, crime stories, celebrity drama, and tragedy. Casinos are also places where thousands of people pass through every day, creating the perfect setting for mystery and rumor.

Whether visitors believe in ghosts or not, haunted casino stories offer a different way to experience Las Vegas. They encourage travelers to look beyond slot machines and shows and consider the real events that helped shape the city.

The next time you walk through the Flamingo, stare up into Luxor’s atrium, or pass through Horseshoe Las Vegas, you may not see a ghost. But you may better understand why these places have become part of Sin City’s darkest legends.
