Online casinos continue to thrive, as April proved to be another strong month for the industry.
The combined total revenue from seven states offering regulated online casino gaming reached nearly $869 million last month. Each of these states saw individual year-over-year growth of at least 25%.
The overall increase from April 2024 reached nearly 33%, or a rise of more than $213 million.
This achievement maintained the momentum from a record-breaking month in March, and comes at a time when states like Ohio, look to be added to the list of legal online casinos.
Connecticut Sets New Standards
Connecticut emerged as a standout performer by setting record highs for the second consecutive month. This southeast state has become a significant contributor to the growth narrative, capitalizing on its strategic partnerships and market offerings.
Delaware and Rhode Island also did really well, showing big revenue increases. In Delaware, the online gaming operator BetRivers made nearly $10 million in gross revenue. This was almost twice as much as what they earned in April 2024.
Rhode Island saw even more impressive growth with its only online gaming provider, Bally’s, which almost tripled its revenue to reach $9.9 million.
Wagering Breakdown
During April, the known wagering handle reached a massive $10.2 billion, despite Michigan and New Jersey not publishing their monthly figures. Pennsylvania led the pack with $7.5 billion wagered, while Connecticut reached $1.6 billion for the third time in four months.
Tax Revenue Insights
Operators reported taxable revenue totaling $787.9 million for April. From this amount, state governments collected $169.3 million in taxes, up by $43.9 million compared to the previous year. These figures reflect only state tax contributions, excluding local taxes and payments to indigenous communities.
Market Leaders: DraftKings and FanDuel
DraftKings and FanDuel solidified their dominance in April, particularly in the state of Connecticut.
DraftKings combined its promotional strategy (spending nearly $11 million) with its virtual games and slots to boost its market share to almost 4%.
They reported record-breaking gross revenue of nearly $32 million, representing a year-over-year growth of more than 38%.

FanDuel Casino also celebrated a new state record with $29.2 million in gross winnings.
While this was only a slight increase from March, the company achieved a remarkable 57.6% growth year-over-year. Despite its promotional spending exceeding $6 million for the fifth consecutive month, it remained under 1% of the total volume moved.
A Promising Future for Online Casino Gaming
April 2025’s impressive figures underscore the sustained growth and resilience of the online casino industry in states where it's regulated.
With Pennsylvania and Connecticut leading as wagering hubs and giants like DraftKings and FanDuel innovating and expanding their market share, the horizon looks promising. As the industry continues attracting more players and revenue, the competition between states and operators will likely drive further innovation and growth.
