With the introduction out of the way, let’s dig into a Week 1 slate that is sure to be full of surprises.

Week 1 NFL Injury Report

Week 1 NFL Injuries

Sunday Morning Updates

Patriots WR N’Keal Harry (shoulder): Harry was added to the Patriots injury report on Friday, despite getting in a full practice that day. Officially listed as questionable, Harry is fully expected to play.

Bears RB David Montgomery (groin): After getting in full practice sessions on both Thursday and Friday, Montgomery is expected to play through his questionable tag today against the Lions. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there are not expected to be any workload limitations for Montgomery against the Lions.

Chargers WR Mike Williams (shoulder): Williams' Week 1 status remains murky after a late Saturday night Adam Schefter tweet stating Williams was unlikely to play against the Bengals was followed by a later report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport expressing optimism that Williams will be available. UPDATE: A subsequent report from Schefter now also confirms that Williams is likely to play this afternoon.

Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring): According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Evans is expected to be available for the Bucs in Week 1. That’s quite the turnaround for Evans, who was listed as doubtful less than 24 hours ago. Per Schefter’s report, the team will wait to see how Evans’ hamstring responds to pregame warm-ups before making the final call.

Eagles WR Jalen Reagor (shoulder): Like Evans, Reagor has also recovered from injury quicker than expected and the Eagles rookie is now expected to play in Week 1. Reagor was originally given a four-week recovery timeline after suffering the injury in late August.

Saturday Updates

Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring): According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Sanders will not travel with the team to Washington. He will miss the Eagles' opener against the Washington Football Team, leaving Boston Scott and Corey Clement to split work in the backfield.

Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring): Evans has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable as of Saturday morning. Evans now seems to be trending towards a game-time decision in Week 1.

Friday Updates

Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring): Evans was spotted jogging and stretching at the practice facility and was officially a limited participant in practice on Friday. That’s an improvement after he missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday, but that’s where the good news ends. Evans is officially doubtful to play on Sunday, and if he is unable to go against the Saints, look for Justin Watson and Scotty Miller to step into larger roles on offense.

Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring): After suffering a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s practice, Golladay was absent from team practice on both Thursday and Friday of this week. Before today’s practice, head coach Matt Patricia said the team was taking it day-by-day with him, although Golladay was later designated as doubtful to play in Week 1. Teammate Danny Amendola (hamstring) is questionable to play after a week of limited practice, potentially leaving the Lions very thin at wide receiver. Marvin Hall and Quintez Cephus would be the next men up at the position if Golladay and Amendola are both inactive.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring): Sanders closed out the week with a third consecutive limited practice on Friday (though head coach Doug Pederson said his starting running back was doing “extremely well” before today’s practice). Pederson stopped short of confirming that Sanders would be active this weekend, but Sanders does seem to be trending in the right direction.

Chargers WR Mike Williams (shoulder): On Monday, head coach Anthony Lynn called Williams a “game-time decision” and not much has changed since then, as Williams was a limited participant in practice each day this week. We’ll have to wait for the Chargers’ game day inactive report to learn Williams’ Week 1 fate.

Bears RB David Montgomery (groin): Montgomery is officially questionable for the Bears’ opener against the Lions this weekend, but after he was able to string together consecutive days of full practices, it would be surprising if he is unable to play this weekend.

49ers WRs Deebo Samuel (foot) and Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring): Unsurprisingly, Samuel is listed out for Week 1 after missing practice throughout the week. Aiyuk was able to return to practice on Thursday, getting in a limited session, and he followed that up with another limited session on Friday. Aiyuk is officially questionable to make his rookie debut against the Cardinals this weekend.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (NIR): Although Coleman does not have a game status designation heading into the weekend, he still warrants attention after sitting out Friday’s practice due to poor air quality. Presumably, Coleman’s absence in today’s practice is related to his sickle cell disease, making his Week 1 outlook murky if the air quality in Santa Clara remains poor, as is expected. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that if the Air Quality Index (AQI) is above 150 on Sunday, he’ll leave it up to Coleman to decide whether or not he’ll play.

Thursday Updates

Texans WR Brandin Cooks (quad): Cooks is officially active for the season opener, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring): Evans was spotted working with a trainer on the side during Bucs practice Thursday, but he’s officially a DNP (did not participate) in practice for the second consecutive day. Head coach Bruce Arians indicated Evans would likely be a game-time decision this weekend, but his practice participation is trending in the wrong direction.

Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring): Golladay suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s practice, earning him a “limited” designation on the day’s practice report. On Thursday, Golladay was absent for individual drills and officially a DNP (did not participate) on the practice report, though head coach Matt Patricia did not appear to be overly concerned, saying of Golladay’s injury, “We were just trying to make sure we did a good job taking a look at it.” Danny Amendola (hamstring) has also been limited in each of Detroit’s first two practices.

Bears RB David Montgomery (groin): Montgomery was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, but he said he was just playing it safe. Recent reports on Montgomery’s injury have been positive and he was a full participant in Thursday’s practice. He’ll be on the field in the Bears’ opener, barring a setback.

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (shoulder): Sutton injured his shoulder today in Broncos practice after landing awkwardly during an attempted reception, according to NBC’s Mike Klis. An MRI this afternoon confirmed an AC joint sprain for Sutton, and he is currently considered day-to-day. Fellow receiver KJ Hamler (hamstring) was also listed as a limited participant as he works his way back from an injury suffered in mid-August.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring): Although teammate Deebo Samuel remained sidelined for the second consecutive practice, Aiyuk was able to get in a limited session on Thursday.  The rookie receiver has missed a lot of valuable practice time over the past couple of weeks, but his limited participation in today’s practice gives him a chance to be on the field in Week 1.

Wednesday Updates

Texans WR Brandin Cooks (quad): Although the Texans did not formally practice on Wednesday, the team was required to estimate practice participation ahead of Thursday night’s opener against the Chiefs. Cooks was estimated as a limited participant Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday’s practice and he is officially questionable to play in Week 1. Cooks now appears to be headed towards a game-time decision, and if he’s unable to go, expect Kenny Stills to step into a larger role on offense.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring): Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said of Sanders on Wednesday, "We’ll get him through this week, see how he does, and see where he’s at on Sunday." Sanders was a limited participant on Philadelphia’s first injury report of the season, though he still seems to be on track to play in Week 1. Pederson classified Sanders’ status as “day-to-day” on Wednesday.

Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (hamstring): Cooper had missed the final four practices of training camp with a hamstring injury, but he was able to get in a full practice session on Wednesday. At this point, there is no reason to be concerned about Cooper’s Week 1 availability.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee): Edelman underwent multiple offseason surgeries after battling shoulder, knee and rib injuries throughout the 2019 season. He’s listed as a limited participant on the Patriots’ initial injury report of 2020, though he's expected to be available for New England’s Week 1 matchup against Miami.

Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring): Evans was absent from Wednesday’s practice due to a hamstring injury and was called a possible game-day decision by head coach Bruce Arians. A hamstring injury also landed Evans on IR for the final three games of the 2019 season.

Bears RB David Montgomery (groin): There was concern that Montgomery would be facing a lengthy absence when he was carted off the practice field on Aug. 26 with a non-contact injury. Fortunately, the injury does not appear to be as serious as initially feared and Montgomery was on the practice field Wednesday as a limited participant. Backfield mate Tarik Cohen said of Montgomery’s status Wednesday, "I feel like the injury was a bigger deal in the media than it really was here. He bounced back off of that so fast, it’s like it never happened."

Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring): When the Bengals released their inaugural injury report of the 2020 season, Green was a surprising omission. After being limited to individual drills as recently as last week, Green now appears to be in the clear for the Bengals’ season opener this weekend.

49ers WRs Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) and Deebo Samuel (foot): Earlier in the week, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he was “hopeful” that his top two receivers would be able to return to practice this week, but that did not happen on Wednesday with both receivers listed as DNP (did not participate) on the 49ers’ practice report. If both Aiyuk and Samuel are unable to go in Week 1, Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor, Dante Pettis and Richie James would be next in line for snaps.

Late Tuesday Updates

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee): The Chiefs appear to be at full strength heading into the Thursday night opener against the Houston Texans. Kelce, who was limited in Monday's session, was able to practice in full on Tuesday. In fact, the Chiefs did not list anyone as limited or DNP (did not participate) on Tuesday.

Texans WR Brandin Cooks (quad): The Texans aren't quite as lucky as the Chiefs. Cooks sat out Tuesday's practice after logging a limited session on Monday. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, this is the same injury that has caused Cooks to be limited throughout the offseason.

Texans DE J.J. Watt (personal): Watt was a new addition to Houston's practice report, but his absence was not injury-related.

Broncos LB Von Miller (ankle): Miller suffered an injury in practice on Tuesday that will likely end his season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. An MRI on Tuesday night confirmed that surgery will be needed to repair Miller's ankle, though the star linebacker will seek a second opinion on Thursday.

Tuesday Updates

Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring): After missing the entire 2019 season with hamstring and ankle injuries, Green has been limited to individual drills in practice since “tweaking” his hamstring on Aug. 17. His Week 1 status does not appear to be in jeopardy at this point, though it's unclear whether he'll be on a pitch count given his practice limitations.

49ers WRs Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) and Deebo Samuel (foot): Assumed to man the top two spots on the Niners’ depth chart at the wide receiver position this season, both Aiyuk and Samuel have missed multiple practices of late with their injuries. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team was "hopeful" that both Aiyuk and Samuel would be able to return to practice this week, making their Week 1 statuses unclear as of Tuesday morning.

Jets WR Breshad Perriman (knee): The former Buc has missed several practices dating back to late August with a knee issue, though an MRI performed last week reportedly did not find any potential long-term concerns. The latest report is that Perriman’s knee remains swollen and he’s being limited to individual drills in practice.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (undisclosed): Parker has been absent from practice with what has only been described as a "minor injury." Head coach Brian Flores did not offer a timetable for Parker’s return when asked about his receiver on Aug. 31, and Parker has been limited to individual work since that time.

Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake (foot): Drake caused a panic among fantasy football drafters on Aug. 24 when he was spotted wearing a walking boot, but both Drake and head coach Kliff Kingsbury have downplayed Drake’s injury since that time. Drake returned to practice on Sept. 3, making him likely to be on the field in Week 1, barring a setback.

Chargers WR Mike Williams (shoulder): Conflicting reports about Williams’ status have made his Week 1 status murky as of Tuesday morning. While offensive coordinator Shane Steichen said the team was optimistic that Williams would be available for Week 1 on Sept. 3, Daniel Popper of The Athletic subsequently reported that L.A. was planning to be without Williams for the majority of September. Head coach Anthony Lynn called Williams a "game-time decision" for Week 1 on Monday.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring): Sanders was called “week-to-week” after suffering a hamstring injury in mid-August and he has been limited to "shadow drills" in practice since that time. The Eagles did claim rookie RB Jason Huntley off waivers on Sunday, but as of Tuesday morning, the expectation is that Sanders will play in Week 1.
