The world's top golfers will compete on the longest golf course on the PGA Tour when the PGA Championship tees off this Thursday from Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C. for the second major championship of the year.
Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are essentially co-favorites to win the PGA Championship, with Scheffler coming in at +425 and McIlroy at +500 at DraftKings. Behind them is Bryson DeChambeau at +950. Jon Rahm is +1800, while defending PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas are +2200.
Here's a look at everything you need to know before betting the 2025 PGA Championship, including tournament odds, golf picks, and more.
Top PGA Championship Betting Picks
It doesn't feel great fading the top of the board this week, but I don't see any value in Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy at +500.
Xander Schauffele has gotten off to a slow start this season, largely because he missed some time with an injury. However, he's rattled off four straight top-20 finishes including a T8 at The Masters.
He won the PGA Championship last year and has won two of the last five majors, so we should like his chances if he can get into the mix on Sunday.
This is a course that certainly sets up well for his game, as he's finished runner-up, runner-up, and T14 in his last three appearances at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Betting on Patrick Cantlay to win a major feels like betting on the lottery. Deep down you know you aren't going to win, but you want to think it's possible.
Given how well Cantlay is striping the ball right now, I'm falling for the lottery ticket once again. Over his last four events, he has gained 7.0, 6.6, 4.4, and 6.6 strokes ball striking. Surprisingly, his short game has held him back from turning one of those performances into a win.
Historically, he's had one of the most well-rounded games on tour, so his game should set up well for this week.
I thought about betting on Tommy Fleetwood to win this week, but I already have a ticket on Patrick Cantlay and didn't want to double-down on golfers who don't win majors.
However, I love Fleetwood to finish in the top 10. He has one of the most complete games on the PGA Tour, as he regularly gains strokes in all facets of his game.
He comes into the week in great form after back-to-back top 10s at the Truist Championship and the RBC Heritage. He's also finished T14 or better in each of his last three trips to Quail Hollow.
Keegan Bradley has been one of the best tee-to-green golfers on the PGA Tour this year, but his putter has gone ice cold.
I prefer a strong tee-to-green game over a strong putter this week. Bradley is a good total driver of the ball, he's excellent with his irons, and he's underrated around the greens.
Even with his bad putting, he's still been a top 30 machine this year. He's finished T35 or better in each of his last three trips to Quail Hollow, so I like the +330 odds on him to finish in the top 20 this week.
For the longest time, everyone said Schauffele would never win a major. But then he did, and he racked up another one a few months later.
There's always a narrative until there isn't.
Corey Conners is one of the best ball-strikers in the world and has shown that he's capable of contending on courses that demand a strong tee-to-green game. The worry is always with his short game, but he has gained strokes around the green in six of his last eight events and has gained strokes on the greens in five of his last eight events.
If he can be positive in those two categories this week, his ball-striking should be good enough to put him into contention.
At +7000, he's my favorite long-shot of the week.
And finally, we have Keith Mitchell, who is sure to be the DFS chalk this week at a price of only $6,200 on DraftKings.
But we aren't here to talk about DFS. Mitchell is one of the more streaky golfers on the PGA Tour, and he has rattled off five straight top-20 finishes. He's a bomber and an excellent iron player, so his game should set up nicely for this venue.
He's played well here in the past, including a T3 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2021.
2025 PGA Championship: Quail Hollow Golf Club Course Preview
We typically see new venues for the majors not held at Augusta National Golf Club, but we should be very familiar with Quail Hollow Golf Club. It's a regular stop on the PGA Tour rotation (Wells Fargo Championship), and it has held the 2022 Presidents Cup and the 2017 PGA Championship. The way I look at it, the more data we have to dissect on a course, the better.
Quail Hollow is a classical golf course that is located in Charlotte, N.C. It's a par-71 that now measures 7,626 yards. The length of the course would be daunting for a par-72, let alone a par-71. In the last four years this course hosted the Wells Fargo Championship, it ranked as the sixth, 14th, fifth, and eighth most difficult course on the PGA Tour.
The course features narrow, tree-lined fairways that will be difficult to hit. Given the length of the course and need to hit driver, bombers certainly have an advantage this week. That's not to say you can spray the ball and get away with it though, as the rough is 2.75" thick and there are water hazards on seven of the 18 holes. A combination of distance and accuracy off the tee should prove best.
While the greens here are large (6,600 square feet on average), they are difficult to hit in regulation. That's largely due to the fact that the course is so long that golfers are hitting a lot of mid and long irons into these greens. With so many missed greens expected, strokes gained around the green and scrambling will be important metrics.
With such a demand on tee-to-green play, putting is the one statistic that I don't mind overlooking this week. Golfers won't be able to putt their way into contention here. The winner will likely end up having a good week with the flatstick, but everyone in contention will have to show some tee to green prowess.
